• Bought this a few years ago as an emergency go between after my previous bike got nicked, but have only just got round to moving it on. The paintwork is très ratty with patches of surface rust, and there are a few bits of work that need doing before it's ready to ride, so this is reflected in the price.

It's a large (60cm-ish) steel Dawes road frame converted for SS use. I'm 6'3 and it fitted me well Shimano Tiagra-hubbed wheel at the back with a Wheels Mfg single speed conversion kit, and a Campagnolo Venta wheel at the front (it was originally a matching one to the rear, but this was nicked also). I put the tape on the saddle when I bought it as the stitching had come loose, but it's worked fine since. The tires are also fairly well used and could with replacing soon (esp the back one) - I've got a pair of Schwalbe road tires I can chuck in for free if needed.

    Things that need doing:
    1) The BB needs replacing as it has come loose - Edwardes in Camberwell quoted me £35 for this
    2) It needs a rear brake. I've included an old one that I had hanging around, but it needs pads and a fastening bolt, as well as another lever
    3) The headset is a bit sticky

However if you get those sorted you'll have yourself a nice pub/beater bike for cruising round on. I'm looking for £70 but open to reasonable offers. Based on the Old Kent Road (Elephant end), collection only I'm afraid but viewings are welcome. If you want any further info please get in touch via PM. Cheers!

  • Price drop £60

  • Any chance of a close-up photo of the dropouts? Trying to get a feel for the frame quality.

Also, seat tube size might help.

  • @ffm I've attached some more photos, let me know if you'd like any more. I'm afraid I don't have a tape measure or callipers to hand so will have to get back to you on the seat tube.

  • Cheers for the photos. That dropout is strange, what's that extra cowling behind the dropout? Part of a chainguard perhaps? The seatpost diameter should be stamped on it somewhere if you can get it out.

I don't think the frame is decent enough to be an upgrade for me, but I am tempted to buy it, fix it up and flip it on for a charity sale. I've got a brake set, saddle and various BBs lying around so there's a fair chance that I could sort it out for basically no cost. Alternatively, if you want the brakeset for cheepz (and I'll donate the cash), let me know.

  • The extra cowling is the single speed conversion kit - it has two raised bits of cowling on either side of the cog, I guess to stop the chain derailing. Popped the post out and the diameter is 26.4.

  • Thanks for the PMs, not for me at the moment, but a good buy for someone with spanner skills.

    Bump!

  • Still available - price drop to £50

  • Price drop to 40 squids, or will listen to sensible offers. Anything much lower than this and I'd rather donate to the refugee bike project/something similar.
