I suspect they're doing an "independence day" somewhere in Arrival, eg a human thing works on something that can't work (the viruses in ID) and it's the suspension of disbelief out of the window.
Solaris keeps it very abstract like Stalker. (well Russian sci-fi innit).
Engineers/technical types are the worst for sci-fi they pick holes in about anything :):)
[and unfortunately I am one too, more and more...job deformation in progress]I'll watch it myself once it's on blu-ray and see if we agree/agree to disagree.
Can't get Le Manfriend to watch Arrival, not good enough. He's not half picky...
Any good not perse new sci-fi movies for the discerning movie critic?
He liked cipher and solaris.
Also finally saw The Fly (Cronenberg) sad ending is sad and "I am a fly that dreamed he was a man etc." scene is powerful. Even if you read about it, heard about it, it's still sad.
Good job.
