That's just proper GTi

why opt for the Compass other than the fact its the 'on trend' tyre of the moment?
I have them and am not really bothered about being on trend when it comes to bikes stuff, you may have noticed :)
They're great, look nice yes but also roll very nicely and 35mm is a great compromise between smaller and bigger profiles.
I totally agree with @umop3pisdn - they're a lot better off road than you'd think and I have found them a lot better on loose gravel than I thought they'd be, but they get sketchy when the mud gets slippery.

Just seen there aren't any standard Bon Jons going though - £59 a tyre for the extralights is jokes.Oh just saw you got those Challenges. I was actually going to suggest those, good choice.

Good to meet you today @hoops (I'm Will, they guy who assaulted you and your Talbot outside of FCP today). This looks to be another fantastic build, good luck!

Matt guards to match matt bumper?
-
• #84
Yeah!
Although I have struck a problem with the lacquer reacting with something on the mudguard. I degreased thoroughly, but think there was still some mould release agent embedded in the weave.
Should be able to sort it out though. -

What does the stem say?
-

Shit outta luck.
Exactly the same thing I painted on the stem that I had on the Ritchey. I built the Ritchey as a bad weather bike, but the weather always seemed to turn out ok when I rode it, so hoping it will bring me the same luck on this one!

Also gotta say I'm Pretty impressed with how light the frame is. I don't think the total weight of this bike will be far off my Dalsnibba (when it has the CK/Belgium wheels on, not the enves) , even with disc brakes. The skinny T45 wishbone that Matt does now deffo offers a considerable weight saving over the cast type that's on my Dalsnibba. I know the aesthetics aren't to everyone's taste though.
Put all the bits I've got together loosely yesterday as I was so excited when the frame turned up. Happy that the mudguards are pretty low key, as thats was one of my main aims with this.
Really hoping to have this together to ride over the Christmas break on the few days I have off!

Toight as toight toiger.
Would ride as is. Initially thought colour palette was a little dark even though big fan, but you've executed this perfectly. This will look mental in the sun.

Yeah, the green looks really dull and almost black under artificial light. It's very metallic tho, so will be completely different in the sun. Excited to see what it looks like in the daylight myself! My paintwork is mostly a very nocturnal past time tho, so I never really see what most projects look like in the sunlight til they're finished!
I think this is the simplest paint scheme I've ever done too, so getting a strong main colour is key I think. I've also never done a 'theme' before (unless you count the 90's Genesis I recently did)... Hope it all comes together as planned! Was thinking about doing some crossed red stripes on the back end of the mudguard that loosely mimic the VW logo, but think that might push it over the edge.
It's a lot more green than it looks in my photos...

Really like the mudguards.

The Enve one actually seems really solid. I was a bit dubious of the snap on fittings at first, but it's actually pretty well thought out and comes on and off in seconds. Time will tell how effective it as a mudguard tho..... if that fails at least it looks nice!
Not really sure how much of a ball ache the rear Swarf guard will be to fit, but Matt can deal with that! It came with VElo Orange stays that had about 20 different kinds of fixings in the bag. I think he mocked it up with guard in a while back to check clearance anyway. -

Was also informed the other day the rims are Light Bicycle not Gigantex like I first thought for those that were asking a while back. Go hit up Gav at August with any questions. He's a really good dude. I think he lurks on here from time to time.

Tricky to execute maybe, but paint and frame detailing will be killer.
I'm more of a fan of the subtler look at the moment, but my opinion is just that. A dark metallic with a come hither look to it as opposed to shredding your eyeballs out. Slowly draws you in closer to the bike to look at all the detailing. This is it. The sleeper look, just like the GTI was. A rapid shred machine that could still make the eggs in the boot into an omelette.

Totally describes Bobby that.

I guess we'll see when it's all done.... I normally have a really good idea of how my projects (my own stuff and commisioned work) will come together as a build, but I really have no idea how this one is gonna go at this stage! I considered putting a 3mm red square/rectangular pinstripe around the stainless Talbot headbadge on the headtube to mimic the gti front grill, but again thought it would be OTT. I couldn't resist using a little VW logo instead of a '#' and the VW font for the #savethefrontmech joke on the mech clamp. That will be the only direct reference to VW, and you'll hardly see it once it's built.
I've got half the parts here, and Matts got the groupset and a few other bits with him. Matt wants to build it and get some fancy photos taken. I'm gonna send everything over to him next week. No idea if it will end up in the porn or anti porn thread til then! It will deffo be on trend..... that much I'm sure of!
One thing I have learned is that doing simple paint schemes is just as hard as the crazy shit I normally do, as any imperfections are so much more noticeable!

Wrapped up the paint on the frame, stem and ISP topper this evening. Ran out of matt lacquer, so mudguard will have to wait.
