Adding to the run of 90s mountain bikes, I just took delivery of this 1996 Kona Lava Dome. Adding mudguards and front rack to use as commuter and child transportation vehicle. Wondering about converting to drops and 1x but probably not worth the hassle for what i'll use it for initially.

For your intended use drops seem illogical.

Drops + front rack = compromise

Nice. Hope you didn't get shot!
(Sign reads "firing range / no trespassing" to you non scandis)
I may possibly be joining the old mtb appreciation society myself before long. Did you keep any of the old stuff or just start with the frame?

That Basso is great^^^
My mash is now back with drops, some fancy green cables, and some new wheels/tyres. First real test with tubeless today at Hillingdon but it feels so much nicer even just round the block on the road. Thanks to whoever suggested dtswiss in the wheelbuilding thread. was very painless setting up tubeless

Mxl vendor has a lot of bikes , I may help him sell some , has a nice team Merckx pista on hold for me , maybe some will surface on the market in the new year
as it is, Mxl should not be beyond reach to complete , the drug cheats used 600/7401 mix -

basso is a funny one , drilled basso panto forks , no sign on basso on the frame apart from a basso era pogliaghi stamped stay bridge , serial no's under Bb , stay caps consistent with pog , small size , East Asian market target with pog enhanced hipster tax

out of curiosity, how are those brake levers? they seem uncomfortable to me
-
• #111622
I really like the hood position, but I really don't like them from the drops. They would be better on some bars where the drops kick out.
