  • Hello, new to the forum so thought i'd throw up my nature boy build (lurked for a while)

Frameset is on order with Charlie the bike monger and should hopefully arrive in about a month.
Used to own a canti Nature Boy which I loved but the 52cm was a little long so 49cm this time around.

Mix of parts i'm slowly buying and bits I had in the spares:

Campag cranks might be a stupid idea!

Didn't realise blackburn cages were painted but they'll do for now.

Slx Brakes as will be flat bar until I work out the wald with drops.

Guards and a spare Chromag seat, will likely not use this but will do to get it built.

    Other bits are:
    Halo spin doctor to tb14
Pair of hope pro evo IIs I am toying lacing to 650s because big tyres look cool!
Wald 1372 I need to make worth with 31.8 bars

And my current garage set up for anyone who's interested.

(The QR on the cinelli will be gone as soon as I can bothered rebuilding it!)

  • Wondering if anyone can help me with some decisions?

Got the TRP levers so will eventually get cable discs set up and drops back on. Ive run Spyre SLC's before. Has anyone run the SLC and normal ones? are the SLC's worth the extra cash other then from a weight perspective?

Also anyone run a Wald 1372 with drops? I'm thinking a set of flared drops might work? liking the look of cowbells currently.

    Thanks

  • Welcome :) 650b rims on hope hubs sounds sick. Is the natureboy disc any good for 650b in terms of tire clearance/ chainstay shape?

The wald is bout 38cm wide, so even a 38cm cowebell would be fine as it flares. but maybe size up to be on the safe side? not sure what width bars you want for this build.

  • Erm, it looks like your garage is a bit cluttered... you need to send that Santa Cruz my way to help alleviate the problem!

  • I'll take the rollers and the vice. cheers

  • What they those zipp bars?

  • Hoping so, found a Nature Boy canti online built to replicate a Speedvagen Urban Racer with 650s so hoping the stays are similar on the disc.
Will run it 700c to start and test fit the 650 when I can.

Normally run 42s so will should work out well, thanks.

  • Zuka sprint I think, predecessor to the SL-70.

Haha i'm afraid even the better half cant persuade me to clear the garage, she has a un reasonable vision of parking her car in it!!

  • What a fool!

  • As you say the trp disc calipers run exactly the same, just a weight saving. I run 42cm cowbells, they are excellent bars, will never bother with anything else.
    I have garage envy!

  • Pair of standard spyres popped up on ebay for a good price so that made my decision simple!

Great, are you on the 2 or 3? I'm leaning towards the 3 as again seems like a minimal weight saving is the only difference unless I'm missing something?

  • Again, just a weight thing, different alloys used, no difference in shape. I went with cowbell 3, if that's the cheaper one.

  • Few bits have arrived,

Archetype to XT hub, Will annoy me having mis matched wheels to start but it was a bargain and i'm trying to keep the budget low for now..

Got a Charge spoon until I work out what will suit. Also picked up a new Velo Orange seat post that the guy had bought the wrong size! I was thinking what kind of fool would buy a wrong size seatpost... probably the same type of fool that would buy a setback seatpost without realising!

On a positive note I found out the wald makes a perfect laptop holder when I'm on the rollers!

  • Well the frame turned up quicker then expected! Not something to complain about but left me lacking a few parts.
Quick mock up with some parts:

Terrible photo but will get some nicer ones when I can get it out.

Ive encountered a problem with the crank/chain ring set up!
    Looks good:

But the tab on the back will foul with the small ring.

Is it a really bad idea to grind/ cut of some of that tab to make it work??
Or should I just get a bigger ring?

  • You won't die but unless you're going to use this for 'real' cyclocross you'll find a bigger ring more comfortable anyway

  • 27.5 WTB horizons fit in a nature boy with a wee bit of room left

    (for ref http://www.wtb.com/products/horizon)

  • it's a really good idea

  • Hi mate, I like ur garage setup. Where did u buy the work table and the tool wall and how much was it ?

  • Dibs powder skis

  • Slow progress whilst waiting on bits, Really don't like the seat post so will get that changed as soon as I can.

The hacking happened and it fits. Will probably upsize eventually

@rogan Good to hear! Going to wait for spring before I build the 650 wheels, heard the horizons don't like the wet.

@oli_ro It's a cheap eBay job! £40 I think, it's honestly not great quality but it's holding up so far and I think if I replace the top with thicker ply it would be improved a lot.

  • Nice! I would personally go for black stem and maybe post.

Going to look super sick with 650s and WTB horizons

  • are you using this ss or fixed?

  • SS!
may run 2 rear cogs if I can work it out though. Something for road and a spinnier one for off road/lazy days

  • Cheers! Yeah I'm not normally one for none black parts to be honest but wasn't keen on a full black bike either! Tan walls might break it up enough for black bits.

  • IMO you have the amount of silver just right here. Looks classy and not too old and boring.
