It's a matter of maintaining momentum: keep it in a big gear, keep the weight back, try and hit the ruts and power through.

Bah humbug, my first proper season of cross and only one muddy race so far
Would you go with a similar set up to Sunday or use mud tyres?

• #5529
Was the big dipper ride-able on SS?
-
• #5530
Same as Sunday.
But I could be wrong, sometimes you get mud when you least expect it.

• #5531
Agreed. Don't fight the bars either, you need to have some control over where you're going but loosen your grip slightly to allow the front wheel to move around.

Spam alert - but I'm selling some cx stuff here;

Was the big dipper ride-able on SS?
Negative. Unable to take any real speed into it thanks to the corners leading up to it and the strip of gravel at the bottom. I'm not sure many outside of the top 5 were riding it.

Myself (on SS) and most others (geared) were riding to the lip halfway and running from there, a couple further back still riding the whole thing, certainly didn't seem faster though.
I did manage to ride the sand every time though. -

Another attempt to get you guys to sign up for the race we are hosting. It's our first cross event and we want a big turn out!

I'd love to ride it, but I'll be sleeping in the garden if I squeeze another race in during December!

Crashed my frame racing. Need replacement frameset. Alloy and disc. Suggestions on frame and who sells them online(for bill to show insurance company and I am not UK based)? Really liked my trek cx ion. Looking towards crockett. Other options to consider?

Has anybody ridden the Hillingdon course central league has on the program tomorrow? It should be muddy and grassy tomorrow so I was planning to go single speed and tubs.

Our household has Ridley and Kinesis frames. Both of them are much loved and very reliable in all conditions. Kinesis sell direct and Ridley have a full global dealership network so I imagine a suitable online retailer could be found.

Giant tcx SLR. Very impressed with mine. Not sure if they are still available as frame only?

I've raced there a couple of times. Once in the dry, once when it was muddy. Even with the rain tonight, it's likely to be firm in most places but some areas might churn up as the racing progresses.
It's not as flat as you think, as they use a lot of the landscaping inside the tarmac circuit to make the cross course interesting, but you should be fine on singlespeed.

Nice, thx. I'll stick to the plan then.

Always enjoyed racing at Hillingdon.
Hats off to you! I slung the bike on my shoulder and sprinted through. I rode it in the practice lap but came off and I couldn't handle the scraping noise from my rotors after either!
