I kept ending up in NL too so I guess NordVPN doing something similar. Was a bit of a PITA when trying to buy something earlier.

Becoming an MP makes one an actual target though, as apposed to just being one of the masses in the general trawl.

A target for who?

Imagine being the IT guy for Boris when he goes to China.

Yeah, but can I be an MP for some shitty DIY party? Just to prove a point it would be funny if loads of people became faux MPs. Like people buying Public Carriage lics to avoid congestion or bus lane fines or whatever the fuck they were doing with them.

So, I managed to replace the firmware on an old router (a TP-Link TL-WR741ND).
It had a SamKnows firmware on it originally (as some time ago I had participated in their scheme), and that seemed difficult to manipulate, so I had taken the router apart thinking that I might need to try to remember how to interact via the serial port. But I managed to get SSH working eventually, so was able to copy on the new firmware, then write it. All good.
As the router is quite old, it has (I think) a fairly old version of DD-WRT. It's an 'Attitude Adjustment' build. Anyway, I've got it working on my home network, and just need to set up the LAN/WAN properly, and work out how to install the OpenVPN software to get it working with PIA.

You could apply to represent The Official Monster Raving Loony Party
(the Official in the title made me smirk yesterday, I wonder what off-shoots they have...) -

Sounds a bit too formal, a bit straight-laced, for me.
I'm more of a Far Cough Party representative.

Can anyone point me to someone who does seminars / group instruction sessions on encryption and online security? It'll be to people with little expertise. Pls PM if easier.

Might not be quite what you want but probably a useful starting point.

The encryption backdoor thing is interesting. I can see that being explicitly requested in an RFP, and losing U.K. companies a lot of business (if they have been requested to back door their product. My company is US based but we have a number of data centres in Europe to serve EMEA - none in the UK though, and we won't go their in future.

This website demonstrates how much feedback gets sent to a website from user activity, in a nice creepy way. More than I thought:

You can be a candidate - getting elected would be the obstacle to snoop-free status. Fringe party candidacy probably gets you more MI5 attention, rather than less.

Politicians get spied on. A lot.
The Americans eavesdropped on a few g8 summits and had to apologise to Angela Merkel didn't they?
Being exempt from this law doesn't just automatically make them secure. -

He should call himself Marc Wrogers, this would be much more distinctive.

It was more the principle of the thing. A protest move, if you like. If enough people magically became MPs it would render the thing somewhat pointless. :)

So basically the gov can snoop on you via the snoopers charter, but they don't have to declare where they got the data from which means it's hard to defend yourself!
That's, if the comments are correct, against current law and the EHRC won't stand for it (fair trial rules etc...) but it's not exactly pleasant.

Almost a new internet, or at least the best of what we've got now. This guy is why I'm with A&A as my ISP. He's the boss there, and is fighting the right corner in my mind.
So, does £500 and 10 votes not get you to MP status? Does it just get you into local council level? Then what? You have to win the local election to become an MP for that area?
