I can get up a cat 4 climb ok, but I've just not tried anything really challenging.
I did the Chilterns Classic earlier this year and got around; I've lost a couple of kg since then.
Any reason why you wouldn't fit a 28? Some folks don't like the jumps in gears but that might be a price worth paying for a bail out gear.
I think 28 will be the way to go.
I have a 12-25 at the moment as I like the smooth progression, but I imagine that will be low down on my list of things to worry about when I'm half way up hardnott.
