  • Replace it with a Pelago San Sebastián?

Wouldn't be a bad shout, I hadn't heard of them, thanks.

  • Anyone got any subtle alternatives to the Surly Tuggnut for a Steamroller? I don't really want a bottle opener hanging off the back of my bike to be honest!

  • You don't need a chain tug (a tea towel or tennis ball is apt) but any cheap chain tug will do such as the DMR one.

  • Thanks Ed. I know I don't 'need' one but it's handy to have so I can just give it a quick tighten if I notice it's too slack on the way to work or whatever. Do they all fit the Steamroller dropouts do you know?

  • It will work.

If it gotten slack, it simply wasn't tight enough to begin with, ramming a folded tea towel between the tyres and seat tube, aligned the wheel and tighten the nuts as much as you can will sufficient.

  • That teatowel trick was inspired! Thanks Ed!

  • Once again as a fixed gear novice I need to ask your advice: using the teatowel trick about for sorting chain tension, is there a trick to getting the back wheel straight in the dropouts?

  • Get the tension good with tea-towel, tennis ball or hand, tighten chain side. Then straighten wheel and tighten the other.

  • Use your hand, tighten each side a small amount back and forth.

Don't tighten one side first then the other, it cause the wheel to move when doing so.

  • Don't tighten one side first then the other, it cause the wheel to move when doing so.

Really? Just a fraction or a lot? I've been doing it like that for years and it has always worked well. I find it hard to get keep good chain tension while tightening both nuts up at the same time

  • Just a fraction, and it's not both side at the same time, just a small bit on one side, then on the other side, repeat, until it start to grip properly, then do it up tightly.

I'll admit it easier with the bike on the workstand at work.

  • Surly squad I need your advice! Surly states max tyre size is 38c, has anybody managed to squeeze a 40c in the fork? If anyone has, can i see a pic? One guy on google managed to get 42c front and rear but its likely an anomoly. If I can have 40 Il be happy.

    Cheers!

  • Specialized fatboy 45c fits on tb14 rims.

  • Looks comfy, but those tolerances look extremely tight, and I notice the rear wheel is set a long way back in the dropouts!

  • Thats the only way to do it ;) Yea rocks sticking to the tires would ping of the seat tube and fork crown. Lateral clearances are plentiful though, so no rub from wheelflex.

Correct about the rear axle, but there was still some track end left behind the nut. Its definitely not goin anywhere, especially not backwards..

  • Really lovely! Could use a nicer silver post.

  • Thanks, and agreed on the silver post. sold it a while back cuz it was too long tho

  • Anybody selling a fork?

  • I`d have a custom painted (silver with slight sparkling flakes) laying around.
    Must ship from Germany tho.

  • Sounds rather pretty! Wouldn't go on mine (it'd get ruined too quick) but I'd love to see a photo of it installed whoever buys it!

  • Everybody likes pictures so here's a few of my bike.

  • As long as we're posting Rollers with touring setups:

  • @Polka_Dot brother from another mother?? set up almost identical to the Pooch!

  • You know, I call it The Green Dog, because it's green and ignorant Englishmen call it Pooch.

  • That's ace and makes we want to rebuild my roller fucking now
