  • Anyone got any subtle alternatives to the Surly Tuggnut for a Steamroller? I don't really want a bottle opener hanging off the back of my bike to be honest!

  • You don't need a chain tug (a tea towel or tennis ball is apt) but any cheap chain tug will do such as the DMR one.

  • Thanks Ed. I know I don't 'need' one but it's handy to have so I can just give it a quick tighten if I notice it's too slack on the way to work or whatever. Do they all fit the Steamroller dropouts do you know?

  • How tight does the chain need to be? I've not really done much urban riding on a fixed gear, mostly on the track or round where I am there are no traffic lights, quiet roads and I barely ever have to stop to be honest.

I've always run a bit of track slack and not had any problems, is it a safety thing for when you have to slam the anchors on or something?
