I have a dram of Glenfiddich 15yo cask special edition to try. Mate says it's like a fake peaty thing but I will try and reserve judgement.

Many many good options. The above mentioned whisky society in Leith and the Whisky Experience by the Castle will probably have the widest possible selection.

Any pub will prob have half a dozen, and the better will likely have 10-20, but pubs I like with proper good selections include:
Bow Bar, Victoria St
Teuchters' Landing, Leith (You can play whisky hoopla for about £2.50 - throw a wooden ring at the bottles and you drink what it lands around, miss and you get a sheep dip horror whisky)
Blue Blazer, Spittal St
Canny Man, Morningside
The Diggers, Dalry

Can't remember exactly what it is, think it's just the worst one they can find. But you can enjoy it as chaser for your white lightning

Went into corner shop yesterday asked for a bottle of J&B.

Got home, sat down and poured myself a dram. Nearly spat it out. My first thought was that it was some knock off effort. Closer inspection revealed I'd been sold something called "J&Bee Urban Honey".

Should be in the epic fail thread.

Today I bought some Bushmills to make up for it.

Just fed the Xmas cake with highland park. And one for me too. Nom

Not bad. That's like a £110 discount :)

Still, not quite as good as my free £140 worth of beer.

So my gf got me a whisky advent calendar. Which is great.

She's insisting I taste each one before looking at the label. Which I don't mind.

She wants me to write tasting notes, which I don't do.

But if I had to write tasting notes for day 3, it would be "The urine sample of somebody who's eaten a lot of asparagus."

The first two were great, but today's is rank. If it's actually typical of that bottling then I can only say "Kilchoman's Machir Bay is one to pour down the drain".

Used to drink that a fair bit. Never had the Rye version, which is also cheaps.

It's not bad at all and I haven't ever seen it that cheap. Never had the rye version. I just got back from somewhere and missed my chance to visit duty free so I bought a bottle to make up for it.

So many versions of Beam and JD these days. It's almost like they're trying to remove the taste of their whisky :)

I've tried the Jim bean double oak. It isn't bad at all, but would rather have woodford/bulleit.

Though I wouldn't be upset if that wad the only choice

Christmas spirit: Ginger Old Fashioned.

Buffalo Trace bourbon, home made ginger syrup, Angostura's and orange bitters.

I had the idea the other day after following a ginger wine with an old fashioned. It gives a nice heat to the drink whilst still leaving the sweetness, kick and spice of the bourbon.

Mmmmmm.
