Looks bang on mate, excuse my ignorance but is the seat post the wrong way?
-

Thanks for feedback. Yes seatpost is - these Selle Italia posts only have about 15mm or so setback and if turned round you don't have prob of saddle pointing upwards like most posts. It gives a bit more of tt position to a normal geo frame without going over the top full tt mode.
I have same thing on my regular road bike

59/44 on the road bike makes me assume you going to to fit at least a 65t single chainring on yout tt bike!
Jokes aside beautiful Rychtarski. -

Hi Breso,
I do actually have a 65 but that's on a stayer.
I think flattish tt type riding will work best on 12-17 and 55 ish but not for anything hilly obviously.
The 11/59 on the road bike again is only really used on flat or slight declines when you can get into a nice rhythm. I guess it depends on your naturally preferred cadence - I don't go much over 8o although I have trained at high cadence. I also use a 165 crank on the Opera.
I did snick into the 11/59 on proper descents until a good friend pointed out that coming off at the resulting speeds would almost certainly put an end the cycling if not everything :) -

56 tooth
Why?

56 - 12/16 is a good tt set up

Fair enough. Even Sagan only pushes 54-11 top

Thing is it is no use comparing what pros use - something that lots of riders do - unless you're training like them and racing stage races etc ..you just have to use what works for you. Stuart Dangerfield used, I believe, 57- 12 /15.
And Nik Bowdler 77 - 11 .

I don't usually. It just strikes me as odd that you need that gearing when clearly stage winning pros manage with lower.
Each to their own, I'm not moaning or telling you you're wrong. Genuinely intrigued is all. -

- I wasn't trying to correct you - it is an interesting discussion and your points are valid.
I have even done training rides of 50 plus miles on fixed below 60" to get cadence up and throughout my cycling the gearing has gradually crept up. I only use the 59-11 on my Opera when I'm on a flat or decline - I have a 44-32 at the other end for hills. I don't tend to ride over 40 miles max and tend to train harder and shorter these days. I think the pros have tuned themselves and machines to far longer and harder and faster riding than I do. I think it is easy to put on a large ring for the look or kudos but I genuinely like riding it when the terrain allows and obviously I have the other gears to get me up there smoothly.

That makes a bit more sense. Thanks for explaining.
Sorry for the derail -

-Not a derail - you made an interesting point - that's what forums are all about
Thanks Heldring - I was going to use a Campag pista chainset and bb but the stays on the Rychtarski start out very wide from the bb and the chainring had no clearance -I'll check out the UNbb.
nutsjesmoar - I have a road bike (Opera ex team Illes Balears frame 11 speed Ultegra 59/44 and 11/32) which I have been riding this Summer and is a great bike to ride but I guess I just wanted something simplified and I just enjoy building bikes and riding them. In the Winter I will get out the older training machine anyway. I think the Rychtarski will get a lot of use next Summer because it handles so well.
