  • So, I managed to replace the firmware on an old router (a TP-Link TL-WR741ND).

It had a SamKnows firmware on it originally (as some time ago I had participated in their scheme), and that seemed difficult to manipulate, so I had taken the router apart thinking that I might need to try to remember how to interact via the serial port. But I managed to get SSH working eventually, so was able to copy on the new firmware, then write it. All good.

As the router is quite old, it has (I think) a fairly old version of DD-WRT. It's an 'Attitude Adjustment' build. Anyway, I've got it working on my home network, and just need to set up the LAN/WAN properly, and work out how to install the OpenVPN software to get it working with PIA.
