Like I said, perfectly legal in the eyes of the law.
-
• #353
It'll be interesting to see how far under the carpet they try to sweep it though.
-
• #354
Far enough that they didn't think it's a problem looking at their phone while operating a vehicles.

Just re-read the story from earlier in the year about that young lad in Kent hit by the man texting in his van. Gives me the heebijeebies. Staggering injustice.

Travis Perkins lorry driver stopped at a junction fiddling with his phone, van behind him beeps at him to start moving as he's holding up traffic. Lorry driver starts driving out of the junction whilst still looking at his phone and is immediately beeped at by another van he is about to crash into.
Fuck sake, learn the first time.

I'm sure for the lorry driver it'll just further reenforce the idea of: "No crash caused therefore it's safe for me to drive whilst fiddling with my phone."
-
• #358
Or "I'm a professional, I can check my phone while driving safety".
Said everyone ever.
-
• #359
"I've done it hundreds of times and haven't killed anyone, so it must be safe."

Stormtrooper firing at rebels right?

Or the same for any A-Team episode, ever.

Some top-notch ranting in here. This is one of my biggest gripes on the road. I too am afraid that one day one of these texting numpties will take me out. And get away with it, obv.
-
• #363
Incidentally, I recently saw a lorry driver reading a paper and eating a bag of crisps, while driving. Reported it to the company and he seemingly owned up. No idea what they did to him, though.

I just accept that I will get taken out (if not fatally) by a severely distracted drivers at some point, best thing I can do is to minimise that chance.
Candy Crush are too important to drive safety.

From the AA
Today the AA Charitable Trust launches a campaign to deter drivers using a hand-held mobile phone behind the wheel. The campaign kicks off with the premiere of a new short film, “Cadence”.
“Alice and Billy are a talented couple determined to break into the cut-throat music industry. Billy faces a tough decision when propositioned by a large record label, while Alice makes an unexpected discovery, but one choice alters their lives permanently.”
This is the link to Cadence (10 minutes) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mL3SrAOOFHs&t=1s
We are asking for people to help us spread this message by sharing this short film – 10 minutes that could help to save lives.
Please feel free to share this link using the #NeverTextDrive to support the campaign.

Is it any good?

It's too long...
-
• #368
To elaborate more
I think they wanted to get you involved in a slick short film about a 'cool' dude in the music biz, a career break, some sexual tension, a pregnancy... then the key text sent while driving where he chose between a solo career and sticking with his GF/Band partner... with tragic consequences ;( -

This morning a cyclist rode past me, and through a red light, whilst riding one-handed, simultaneously watching the morning news broadcast on his iPhone.
Whilst I applaud his bike handling skills, riding through a red light still makes him a cunt.

Wrong thread... this is about drivers
you need either the calling out bad cyclists threat or RLJing thread -

As a driver I hate it when people use their phones, it seems to be worse after they brought in the new law....I was tailgate on the m11, the driver was on his phone with his right hand and he reached over for a coffee with his left hand! Yes I took a plate and company name as he sped past me
-
• #372
And people who leave it until as late as possible to pull over 2 lanes and onto the slip road
-
• #373
"Excuse me. Its 3 points on your licence and a fine of £1000 if you're on your phone while driving"
"But how else do I use google maps to find where Im going?"
Ah a loophole in the law. On you go.

I was being sarcastic. I think some people are just misinformed. One woman told me she was allowed to be on her phone because she was in stop start traffic.
Is it any wonder they don't take other people on the phone seriously?
