As suggested above new tyres may be a good shout!
I have a set of very lightly used (<300 miles) day one wheels that I'd happily part with if you want to side step rather than upgrade to a set that has done less miles (Built up a bike for my dad with them in 2012 which he didn't use much at all unfortunately).
The rear on mine is spaced 130mm rather than 120mm, I expect your current set up may be the same and it might be worth bearing in mind if you're looking at aerotrack and xpress wheels which are spaced to 120mm.

hi pizzarat, thanks for your reply
I'm looking to cut some weight so probably the same wouldn't help? What difference does the spacing make? #wheelignorance

thanks for your reply - any recommendations? I was considering Schwalbe Durano - a balance of weight and puncture resistance/durability
My days carrying a pump and patches to work are long gone. Also what's your take on tubeless? I hear some are pretty accessible these days; but you need the right rims.

If you want to use a 120mm hub within 130mm spacing there are a couple of options. With steel frames, if you’re brave you can tighten the nuts on the axel bringing the dropouts inbound 5mm either side. Some people are happy to manipulate their frames like this and others are less so..! The other option is to use spacers. In any case this may lead to issues with chainline.
There are a couple of threads on the forum relating to 120/130mm spacing if you have a rummage eg:

In the case of halo aerotracks there is a specific spacer kit available…

I think generally in terms puncture resistance & performance Conti 4seasons are the best.
Hello. I have come to slightly resent the sluggishness of my commuter - Genesis Day One SS (2012) - but can't afford a shiny new bike with gears.
I wondered if a wheel upgrade <£200 would be worth it.
Had recommended so far:
miche Xpress Track Wheelset
Halo Aerorage
But I have no benchmark. Most grateful for any insight. Am I clutching at straws or can I breath new life into my old steed?
