Yeah, was thinking that but don't really have any shorts... I ordered some troy Lee Mountain bike shorts on black Friday but they've obviously not arrived yet.
Guess I'll just walk around thrusting things in everyone's face on the train tomorrow, see how weird it is.
Any recommendations for shorts to wear over lycra that won't wear through or poke me with things?

If you're going option 1 then I'd go shorts on top. Added bonus that you'll have pockets when fumbling with brompton, bag, wallet, tickets, etc.
