bike found

Got home at 1am last night after my wife had spent 5 days in hospital having given birth to our son. Found that thieves had forced the garage door and nicked two of the four bikes in there. In the big picture it's nowt, but still annoying. Also that garage belongs to a neighbour who lets me (and another friend) use it for free. Now we've got to sort out repairing the lock. The thieves stole these two bikes. Obvs I'm more pissed off about the Cannondale.
They left two much nicer bikes because they had no drivetrains on.

This sort of thing is done every once in a while by insurers, and is usually nonsense. They use population figures as their comparison, seemingly ignoring that levels of cycling in Hackney are much higher than elsewhere in London:

Tauheed Close is a strange one - pretty much everyone who owns a bike in that street must have had it nicked.
-
• #13062
To be fair, the name does alert people tau take close heed.
But yes, it's nonsense.

Thank fu@k I don't live in
Hackney anymore, population figures aside, having spent 20 years in the borough and having had 9 + bikes and or components stolen - the figures don't pan out in my favour.....and I'm pretty vigilant with my locks etc. -

Currently having difficulty sleeping after someone tried to steal my bike from within my flat while I slept last night.
It is kind of extraordinary how much of an effect this kind is thing can have on you. Really wishing I'd asked a friend to stay over now.

Amen to that. Horrible feeling.

Damn. You just gave me another reason to fuck off this city.

What a pair of total cunts. I don't know what I'd do in that situation, but I like to think it'd involve hitting them with heavy things or jamming something in their wheels.
-
• #13070
Just hang around, and shove them just as they are gonna pull off on the getaway bike.
-
• #13071
Aww, really wish they hadn't escaped at the end. Crazy how they carried on with the angle grinder even when people were watching them.
-
• #13072
And indeed threatened the people watching them with the angle grinder.

Is that Soho Square?

I think it might be.
Sadly after seven years and over 20k miles my daily got knicked from my front garden in Stoke Newington early Tuesday morning. Just thought worth having eyes out...
