I can get the CX crankset for £60 new though - sell my 105 and it's going to be pretty cost neutral.

I just put a 46T on the instead of the 50T - it's much nicer. I got one from Spa. It's quite a bright silver but the chainring seems fine, it's a rebranded stronglight ring. I needed to file down the peg slightly so it wouldn't foul the crank arm.
You can get a 33T inner ring if you really want, TA do them.

Not though about going 1x11?

Need 4 arm for new fangled Shimano

I get upset by the gap between the 17t and 19t on an 11-28 cassette, I'd never be able to cope with 10" jumps in gears on a 1x11 setup.

new bike?

BBB rings will be the cheapest option with minimal headache no?
-
• #210
Yeah probably... still £50 on a chainring ffs. This would all be fixed if Shimano made a 12-28 11 speed cassette.

Eurgh. So you may as well buy the CX50. It's basically a fc-5750/fc-r460 crankset with appropriate chainrings already. You may want to pop a 34T in there instead, but those are easy enough to find. The fc-r460 and fc-3550 can actually be found with a 46-34 set already.

I've CX-50 cranks and think they're quite nice. Q-factor seems a little wider than road cranks but hasnt been noticeable while riding.

I'm a sucker for mismatched colours

In regards to the front derailleur, this is actually a known problem with mudguards and long arm derailleur.
The new Shimano Dura Ace 9100 should work in theory as it's a more compact design, mainly because a lots of frames aren't really compaitable with the recent Shimano long arm front derailleur (they "snap" up rather than slide up).
The new Sora R3000 is also a compact design, but I'm not entirely sure how well it'll work with the narrower 11 speed chains.

Just wait for 6900/5900

I hit the mudguards with a hammer and it works fine now

yeah, I get the same trouble with my 105 FD. Luckily the LongBoard that it bumps into is pretty flexible and just moves out the way.

Is it just me, or are black chainrings on silver cranksets going back in fashion?
-
• #221
I hope so!

So do I. It's going to piss off the matchy-matchy crowd.. But I guess your Pinnacle is way past that point ;)

This bike needs sticker bomb

Was it ever out though?

I'm thinking mid-90's shimano mtb cranks. I don't know it was by choice or Shimano had black chainring surplus. Personally, I like it.
I also find the 50t to be to big for this kind of bike and a standard cross 46/36 ratio to be perfect.
Instead of the cx chainset, look out for a 5700/6700 chainset (5 arm, hollowtech and 24mm axle, silver or black and cheap as chips) and find the chain rings you want for it.
