  • Question:

I currently have two Airport Extremes and one Airport Express (all wireless n standard) covering three main areas of my house:

    1. Airport Extreme - TV / Sky / Xbox (#1) / Apple TV / Hue Hub - Main router / hub, connected to Virgin modem in modem only mode and wired to three of the items listed
    2. Airport Extreme - Mac Mini / PC / Xbox (#2) / Femtocell - Main spoke, wirelessly connected to main router and wired to three of the items listed
    3. Garden office / shed - Another spoke, wired to the main router (via a cable through the garden) and just used for wireless connection

I want to upgrade to AC standard for more throughput as I have 200Mbps fibre which the which is being limited by the wireless connection. I don't have any issues with signal dropout between the units.

What are my options? Ideally, i want all the listed items to be wired to the main hub or the upstairs spoke.

Should I just buy two of the latest Airport extremes and a couple of switches?

@Velocio: I seem to remember you offering advice recently but can't find it.

  • My advice was in the Mac/Apple thread, and was effectively: Throw away everything and go buy all Ubiquiti equipment.

Which is rock solid advice, except for the bit that involves spending lots of money.

  • I had a quick look at those.

What would i need? Three of the UAP-AC-LITE stations? They look like the only have one port....

Does that mean i would just go Virgin Modem > Switch > Wired stuff + Ubiquiti thing?

    Would a switch power it?

  • I must have missed that... any chance of a link to the comment?

With Apple dropping Airport etc I am getting quite worried about my mono brand eco system... I can't face mixing brands, but, but, I might have to?!
