  • Interesting, I'll post a photo tomorrow to show what it's looking like but the amount of seat-post seems off to me. I had read the geometry did change for newer models but my preconception that toptube is the most important measurement is being challenged by the lack of height to the frame. Cheers

  • stack and reach?

  • Stack is lower than my racer and Sunday best porteur which seems seems strange as I know it's a 'one bike, many hats' machine, having said that I've seen so many photos of +ve stem/tones of spacers. Can't really comment on the reach, but as the top tube length is the same on every other bike I own, I thought this would trump stack.

  • Apologies for the rubbish picture, but it's the only one I have to hand.

This is pretty close to the current setup inc the 130mm stem. Proportions don't look too bad to me.

  • That's nice, thanks for posting a photo. Seatpost almost looks as long just can't help thinking yours looks right whereas mine currently doesn't, to me. I'm considering just building it up riding it, then when a larger frame comes along pouncing on it. How tall are you @ewanmac? I'm 185cms.

  • I'm a shadow under 6ft. Maybe 182-183cm?

  • Too small?

  • No spacers and a tiny stem. You can easily get more stack and reach if you wanted.

  • Thanks, you are right, just thought I see if you guys suggested starting with a larger frame to make up for the spacers and long (120/130) stem.

  • Disclaimer: I don't know anything about bike fits or bikes in general. But if you feel like it's too low or too short, I think you can solve it without having to sell the frame. Is the seatpost at the right height in the picture?

  • Doesn't look obviously wrong to me. Is that the stem you are planning to use? It looks quite short so if went for a larger frame you'd need a stubby little thing

  • @Tijs yes saddle is set to the correct height, think I will go down the spacer route and if the niggles get too much I'll try a larger frame should one come along.

@ewanmac nope won't be using that stem, a 100-120 jobbie will be fitted. If I did get the larger frame a 10cm stem would replicate my normal position, so not too stubby. Cheers guys

  • @jambon welcome to the club brother

  • Thanks. Now the Moser is built and Walvale porteur sold I can start creating the lovechild of your Croix de Fer and Ed's NFE.

The rough plan is a black 650b Croix de Fer randonneur. Just got this doubt about which frame size to go for, 56 or 58. Pretty certain the 58 will be better, so going to hold out for a larger frame I think, can't quite be bothered to start on the smaller frame and swap everything over.

  • Ive been wondering about 650b too, excited to see your progress.

  • Is there a general consensus what's the largest/best rotor size fit-able? Starting to think about brakes and after seeing 140, 160 and 180 discs I presume 180 front a rear is the best option, or is that too simplistic?

  • 160 is plenty, both ends.

  • Thanks. Having a look online it does seem like 180 both ends is potentially over kill too.

  • My one, needs a longer more neg stem though.

  • I would opt for 180 front and 160 rear

  • Looks very nice!

  • Man that hood/bar position rustles my jimmies. Not in a good way. Also is that Gloucester green, Oxford ?

  • Cheers. 👍🏼

  • Good spot... perhaps you should join in this ridiculously slow game of bike tag.

What in particular about the bar position offends you?

  • I would but I live in il Devonia these days. Largely because the tops of the bars point upwards thus making the hand position on the drops incredibly strange, try rotating the bars downwards so that the drop is flatter, then moving the lever upwards to give the desired position while on the tops. Something more like this, unless of course your wrists, elbows and shoulders all function in a very strange manner.
