50mm internal? I think your shoulder knobs might end up in a funny place. I've got a 2.4 mountain King II on a 30mm internal rim and I'm not sure I'd like to push that much further.
Edit - Just checked. They're 45mm internal. You could try some of the newer Maxxis 'wide trail' tyres, if you're after something with more tread than the current 29er + options.

I'm going to be attempting to fit and ride some 2.4 conti mountain kings to my stache's mulefut rims, as the chupacubras still refuse to stop trying to kill me in the muddy stuff....I hope they don't pop off the 50mm beads and try to kill me a different way....pics later when it happens!
