Doubt the old record would handle a 30t might need a more modern rear mech

Might be a hack. I'll go digging

Do you mean you have a 5 speed freewheel on there now, or 10 speed cassette? The old Super Record derailleur can only take up to 28t cog.

Hey, no its a 10 speed record ti 12-25 cassette. Its a early 2000' medium cage 10 speed record mech.

Thanks for having a look, I can only find a 13-26 and 12-30 10 speed campag cassettes new.

This might help. Gives the maximum for normal and long cage.

Thanks for digging this out, but im sure mine is a medium cage rather than short or long.

I remember reading somewhere, can't think where, that if you use a longer "b screw" you can use bigger cassettes with shorter cages... Never tried myself tho.

I'm pretty sure your 'medium' cage is a 'long'.
Also you could try 13-29 cassettes. Should be able to find a veloce one pretty cheap to try it out.

I have used a centaur medium cage ( c 2005) 10 speed with that 12-30 cassette with no issues at all - I reckon you'll be fine. The specs for chain wrap are quite conservative in my experience. You'll need a longer chain.

It won't notice the difference between 29 theoretical max and 30. At the time there was only a 29 tooth cassette so that's why it's spec'd as the max. Medium cage is plenty long enough for the wrap you need....else get a veloce 13-29.
Record 13-29 is available if you are rich:

Hey, hoping for some advice I currently have 10 speed double record chainset 53/39 and 12-25 cassette. I have a 10 speed record medium cage rear mech. Would a centaur 12-30 cassette work with this set up or should I try and source a compact or triple chainset. What would be the solution for some low gears
Thanks in advance
