I meant cycling home was fine. Getting knee tattooed sucks

In reference to bepanthen debate, the recipe has changed.
Best thing to use is palmers coco butter. -
• #11030
Agreed, the unscented stuff in a tub rather than the squeezy bottle is apparently best.

Yh I use palmers in a tub. My partner is a tattooist and in her shop they have some even better coco butter. She's always sworn by it. But if you get enough ink you might be better to invest in some Saniderm sticker sheets, that stuff is unreal

I'm thinking about moving away from bepanthen as just think it's a bit too thick and gloopy. Is this the one you guys were referring to? http://www.superdrug.com/Holiday---Prepare-to-Bare/Palmer%27s-Cocoa-Butter-Formula-Jar-100g/p/379149

I thought the idea with Bepanthen was to use it as a barrier for a few days, then go onto unfragranced moisturiser? This cocoa butter is fragranced moisturiser. Ingredients don't seem too bad otherwise.

the idea with Bepanthen or any other wound skin care ointment is the use of "dexpanthenol"
.
Dexpanthenol keeps the skin moist and does help to create new skin tissue.
.
Most important with any cream for tattoo healing is to use just a thin coat, do NOT use the cream as a "barrier" as this will weaken the scab an make it more fragile.
.
I recomment to wash fresh tattoo with warm water n soap. than tap dry and let air dry till its completely dry. Than but a thin layer skin care cream 3 to 6 times a day till the scab is fully gone. -

Got the fragrance free Palmers in a bottle. Much easier to rub in and seems fine really.

See, this is what I heard back when I got my knee started (maybe, May/Juneish) but I used it anyway and was as happy with it as I've ever been.
I wait 2 hours after the tattoo, wash and pat dry then allow to air dry then apply thin layer bepanthen. I then wash it once a day and keep it moist/greasy however you want to call it in between for 3 days then switch to a normal moisturiser for another 4 or so days.
@DethBeard I found the getting tattooed bit pretty horrible but healing pretty easy. I was motorbiking the next day after a few of my sessions and cycling after a few days. Could have cycled sooner probably but it hurt so much I didn't want to run the risk of having to get it done over!
