I think you lot need to live a little, the wood is fine at this distance from the stove/flue.

I've got a wood burning stove which is in almost daily use and the wood next to it gets pretty hot- I wouldn't store it like that myself. Looks cool tho.
Forgot to say any combustible material should be x3 the distance of the diameter of the flue I think under the regs, I.e 5 inch flue then 15inch gap, which can be halved in some circumstances if there is hardibacker or similar as a barrier. Again that might be overkill, but that flue could be 900 degrees or so at full chat and that wood next to it will be getting pretty hot. And if some of it falls against the flue there may well be a problem...

I kid you not, I've got my stove on tonight, it's running at 700degrees at the flue, and I came back in the room ten mins ago and a piece of wood that I'd previously stacked either side of the stove had fallen against the stove. I thought it was a bit odd there was a bit of a wood smell in the room, and saw a piece had fallen against the body of the stove and it was smouldering away, I.e part of it had started to burn.
No harm done (I am genuinely not making this up) but if any of that big stack falls agains the flue, then you could have a very large smouldering pile of wood rather than the single piece I had tonight.

Do you have an afterburner in your flue?
My fire is burning away merrily and the flue temperature is 150 degrees according to the thermometer.

700 was too hot so I've closed it off a bit now and it down to 400 ish. Ideally I run it at about 400-500 ish. Imo 150 is too low if you have a flue fitted, it'll build up deposits and creosote at anything much below 150 degrees.

You might want to move those logs away from it... They look a bit close.

They'll all be burnt within the next 2 hours with me sitting in front of them so worry not.

Oh shit. Sorry man, I had no idea. I think that excuses anything below genocide.

700 was too hot
No shit. You know that the operating temperature within a nuclear reactor is about 300 and meltdown is about 800? I think that might be a bit hot.
This middle class willy waving competition isn't really changing my perceptions about wood burning stoves to be honest. Aside from the fact that London has a huge air pollution problem and you're all making it worse...

It appears to be you that has your willy out , not me- please do excuse my ignorance about nuclear reactor thresholds.

Re air pollution we are all guilty. You never take a taxi or bus?

Why have I got my willy out? I wasn't aiming that comment specifically at you by the way.
I just imagine that if I fitted a polluting old diesel engine to heat my flat when nearly 9,500 people a year are dying in London because of air pollution people might not think it was so cool. And the particulate emissions are pretty much identical.
^I wonder about this. Mine live outside.
