Will it boot into TWRP? Do you still have the ROM saved on the device? if so, you could try wiping it from TWRP and reinstalling the ROM, maybe. Check out XDA forum, in amongst the crap are some people who really know their stuff.

And have you downloaded GAPPS? Looks like you'll need to flash that at the same time as the ROM or it'll go nuts and fail to boot etc.

remove anything that looks suspicious
Any tips on this? There's a lot of stuff on there!

yep, got the stripped back version waiting on my PC at home.

Sorry, not really if nothing looks blatantly dubious.
If it's rooted then adaway may help. It changes the hosts file so may remove access to a load of the advertising ones

thanks. KingRoot has detected some bloatware files which may have sorted it. fingers crossed. x

KingRoot
.
Be aware that tools used to root phones, particularly one-click ones, will install their own spywareKingroot dials back to servers in China and sends a boat load of data

not everything from china is bad (except maybe the phone i have!)

not everything from china is bad
Well, no, obviously.
But Kingroot is.
It installs itself and spyware as root, and transmits data from and about your phone, to 3rd parties.

there's a lot of conflicting stuff out there.
once the phone is rooted, is that it, what happens if i factory restore?
what happens if I remove Kingroot (or simialr app)? -

Cock, I think I've done it now. Was almost there, boot, radio & system all flashed, trying to find a way to load gapps. Accidentally hit 'reboot system' in adb sideload and now can't get recovery to boot, despite trying to re-flash twrp, cwm and stock recovery. On starting twrp it just repeatedly loads the startup screen. FFFffff...

You can boot into TWRP without actually installing it on the phone, may help https://aubykhan.wordpress.com/2013/07/21/android-tip-boot-into-twrp-or-cwm-recovery-without-flashing/

@Silly_Savage
you can take a bone white wiped N4 (like completely erased) back to life if you can boot into the boot loader.
You need the proper crap on your PC though.
broadly speaking the steps are as follows:
- get fastboot and ADB on your PC. google it. this is probably the most elusive step and you should just go to XDA for the Nexus 4 and read around to find a good install file.
- download the Recovery (TWRP is probably best), ROM (simple is best) and appropriate Open GAPPS ((7.0 7.0... ? I recommend the Pico build of whatever GAPPS)
- Boot into the Bootloader and then "Fastboot" whatever recovery you want. Google how to fastboot recovery. At this point you have recovery.
- Boot into the recovery.
- Using recovery, perform a full wipe of everything.
- Go into Sideload mode and "sideload" the ROM and GAPPS. Google it.
- get fastboot and ADB on your PC. google it. this is probably the most elusive step and you should just go to XDA for the Nexus 4 and read around to find a good install file.

OK! erased all the partitions and reloaded twrp and I'm in!

A couple more questions:
Do I have to install anything after sideloading, or does sideloading automatically install the .img files? Gapps pretty obviously was self-installing, but the rest was less obvious.
Can I install those .img files seperate, or better to wrap them up in a .zip file?
Thought I'd managed to sideload everything, but just had a blank screen on restarting. Will have another go tonight.
edit: if anyone knows of a working relatively up-to-date ROM that will allow lte/4G on the Nexus 4 please share.

All this chasing lte is apparently pointless anyway, as it would only work on BT's netowrk (N4 will only manage lte on 1700/2100MHhz bandwidth) so I'm just going to try and get a stable version of cyanogenmod working on there.

• #18071
Panic over people! I now have a working phone running cyanogenmod. Didn't realise at first that the sideload command installs the package too. So easy.

New oneplus 3t released - $40 more than the oneplus 3. Need a new phone the s5 death screen is ever present
-
• #18073
I'm really tempted by a oneplus but would like a bit of waterproofing and I'm skint.
-
• #18074
The Oneplus 3T's out today - looks like there'll be a 128GB storage option. I don't regret getting my OP3, but would've liked more storage... Can definitely recommend the phone!

Brutal stuff form Google for terms of service violations.
If it turns on a bit you can probably fix it. Stick it in download mode or whatever it's called and start again.
