  • OH. @mespilus @Hovis They paid you not to return them?

But that just means you paid £75 for something you didn't want and wouldn't consider buying : /

  • No mine is an apology for wasting my time, I can return, which I probably will.

  • I used my BCC discount so it was 90 pounds for the set actually.

  • That's good. Makes you wonder what they paid for those things in the first place.

  • I'm just too polite, next time I will be more ruthless.

  • I think it's really shifty and pretty out of order. This was one of the prime deals advertised on what must be one of their biggest sales drives of the year.

The discount shown online is clearly baloney. These wheels do not appear to have been sold at over £200. I think what they've done is therefore illegal.

For what it's worth, they are probably "worth" £75. That's an ok deal for any entry level wheel set. They are not however some mad black Friday bargain.

Getting £20 for sending them back seems like a very good gesture, however they still appear prominently on their site with a big 52% off label.
The Q and A and reviews are getting shirty. The last question asked whether they are tubeless as advertised and 22 hours later CRC still haven't answered that one....

  • Yep I told them to sort the ad out as it's dishonest and misleading. Obviously they have done nothing

  • The label on the DT Swiss box described them as "R24 Ltd Ed" and as part of a batch of 300 or so

  • @amey any idea of second hand value of some newish Archetypes laced to Hope RS mono hubs 32h.

I'm thinking no more than £160

    is that mean ?

  • @TM is the hope guy but yeah that sounds fair

  • If you're selling at that price then dibs.

  • Not selling, buying. What would be a reasonable offer?

  • I reckon £200 if they're in good nick, £240 if VGC

Have you asked them what they're after?

  • I emailed DT Swiss to ask about these wheels,
and to enquire about any guarantee,
    and,
    the answer returned from Madison:
'These wheels are more on the budget side as they are the cheapest set in the range.
They do have a 18mm internal width and a 23mm outer width and are fine up to 110kg rider weight.

Unfortunately we can't control the pricing side from here, that would have be taken up with the shop in question, our rrp price is £99.99 for the front and £124.99 for the rear.'

  • They've given incorrect info, they are most definitely not 18mm internal and 23 outer.

  • These are R24 "Limited Edition" Budget Bullshit from 2014 not the 2015 onwards R24 wheelset.

  • I'll put that into a supplemental, follow-up email.
Do wheels lose spoke tension during unused storage?

  • Now if only I could find* my micrometer, (nothing fancy, just whatever Aldi or Lidl had on offer), I could give the precise dimensions.

[mrs. mespilus took the opportunity of a week long business trip to 'tidy up' some of my stuff, meaning it was crammed into nooks/crannies/cupboards without regard for function nor frequency of use. It took me 15 minutes to find the, (admittedly seldom-used), voltmeter, last week, to check for an elderly neighbour why she had no power in her greenhouse].

  • If as suspected these were made up by DT Swiss China to meet a price point to be put on a factory bike then Madison UK won't know anything about them. They were never sold to the public till this promo.

  • to check for an elderly neighbour why she had no power in her greenhouse

  • @Dammit you don't need yours, can I have them?

You're welcome to borrow them if you'd like?

  • I'm lost by the cartoon,
but, in the greenhouse, a socket on a switched, fused spur had a loose wire,
    and,
in the house, the switched fused spur of the armoured cable to the greenhouse,
had been inadvertantly 'knocked' to 'Off'.

  • inadvertantly 'knocked Off'.

    fnaar fnaar.

Google Finbarr Saunders if you need further elucidation

  • Thanks for the explanation. Doh. Long time since I saw a copy of Viz.

  • Latest answer from madison;
'Taking a look into the wheel sets you are referring to, these are ones in which we don’t stock and are an older model, possibly oem, so there could be some differences and this does reflect in the pricing. They are also not disc compatible and do not have the new aero spoke as per ours.

We keep Shimano and DT, so the RS21 would be the closest match to our R24, although shimano use open ball bearings and DT use a sealed cartridge bearing.

Couldn’t say what in the other brand ranges would be best though.'
