Had some of this the other night, really nice and considering the strength was very drinkable, unlike some other 'big hitters I've tried.
Would buy a bottle if I could track one down.

Going to Edinburgh for new year period, any recommendations for most do whiskey drinking places?

Only one distillery nearby but it's a tasty one - Glenkinchie.
Well worth doing a tour of a distillery if you have never done one. (But once you have done one you have done them all, bar the tasting bit at the end.)

Ah we will be on foot so doesn't look easy to get to by public transport. Have been to a distillery before though.

There's a few reasonably priced Japan only whisky's I've tried here, which obviously I've not had before. Lacking space in suitcases so trying to see how much I can bring back :(

Hip flask worthy. -

Currently on my third bottle of Woodford Reserve in as many weeks. Delish. Coming from 4 Roses it is remarkably different, punchier and more refined I think - although I am a novice.

Woodford is £23 in Tesco just now.
Also in Tesco, Dalwhinnie Winters Gold is £25. A quite unusual dram, intended to be served frozen (chilled) I got through a bottle last Christmas in double quick time. Very easy to drink. It's sweetness opens up as it gets warmer by the heat from your hand through the glass. Recommended. And even better when someone gifts it to you!

Fuuuuu cheap Woodford Reserve, time to stock up!

Cheers. So far, it seems good on its own left to warm up a touch, and makes a decent Old Fashioned (well as good as I can anyway)

Had my first Japanese whiskey last night. Nikka all malt. Really enjoyed it, super smooth with tons of flavour.
What other Japanese whiskeys should I be looking at?

Malt whisky Society in Leith. Even a shitty local will have a decent selection. Captains Bar also.

Picked this up at Narita airport for the bargain price of £18! Got two bottles and would've bought more if I could.

Nikka, hibiki, Hakashu, Yamizaki, if you can find them Akashi, togouchi and Fuji Sanroku
Hibiki 12yr if you can get hold of some is a good one or Hakashu 12yr - they're getting hard to find though

Had a right fiasco with this today - was in Waitrose fortnightly shopping (special treat to myself, avoiding Baker's Arms tesco hell) and decided I was in the mood for bourbon - saw this offer and there was one last bottle on the shelf - sweet!
when I got home I looked at the receipt and noted I'd been charged £50. Turned out I had picked up Woodford "double oaked".
Went back (ok, was sent back!)
Refund for that, got Buffalo Trace instead as I was annoyed with Woodford by that point, even thought I found another display where they had some of the £22 stuff left.
tl;dr - Buffalo Trace is not bad for £20. Quite sweet, which I don't mind, smooth... maybe a bit MoR.
