  • Looks like its lost the windproof arms as well? So slightly simpler construction.

  • You either *burn *donate *sell all your Rapha and 100% Assos.

  • lol I actually crashed last week wearing PTJ .. sent to repairs.

  • I bought a 2016 PTJ in Shepton recently and then the PTTJ in the high-viz 'sale'. Idea being one would get passed on..definitely leaning on keeping the training jacket as it's been great for 2-3 hour tempo rides. The PTJ does feel a little bit warmer, but I think I'll still sell if anyone needs one. It's the dark grey one they just discontinued in large.

  • Rapha hot water bottle coming soon.

  • I've just started a much longer commute than I used to do, it's now 20miles each way so I've decided that I should wear proper bibs and jerseys for the ride, but I don't want to ruin my PT jerseys with my backpack straps. All you prommuters out there, what do you all do/wear. Backpack is a must, I can't leave stuff at work, and I can't/don't want to put a rack on my bike.

  • Carradice make nice saddlebags.

  • Carradice SQR Tour.

When I first started commuting I used panniers. They were overkill. Then I used a rack pack, that was wobbly and the empty rack was added weight (and ugly) when I didn't need to carry stuff, then I used a backpack and it was sweaty and horrible.

Then I got an SQR Tour and everything was fine. Really easy and quick to attach and detach, doesn't wobble around and carries everything I need for my commute.

  • Backpack is okay in winter but pain in summer.
I'd just commute in you rapha top, if your backpack is secured it should not move and wear. You've a nice top so wear it.

What do you need to carry? A framebag or saddlebag might be enough. It is worth getting the weight off your back and onto the bike, a lot nicer.
That said, I commuted with a rucksack that distance for 6 months a few years back. Just means sweaty back.

  • Backpack is inherently non-prommuter.

  • lol I actually crashed last week wearing PTJ .. sent to repairs.

I crashed hard enough to skin my thigh whilst wearing the Hard-shell, slid along on my side, the hard-shell was fine, my leg less so.

  • any ...er...wallet friendly versions of something similar to the SQR - i'm layered up on the ride in but need to take the layers home on the ride back and tired of my mini backback moving around and looking very un promutterish

  • It is worth getting the weight off your back

This. You don't want to be developing chronic back problems.

  • shoes, jeans, t shirt, hat, apron, small towel, packable rain coat (yes this bits neccersary, the weather loves to be sunny when I leave in the morning and pissing with rain when I come home) that's the work stuff, then just the stuff I'd normally put in jersey pockets on a normal ride, phone, tube, pump, tool, keys.
I wouldn't need a backpack if I didn't have to cart the shoes too and from work everyday, but apparently we don't have space for lockers (which is true but annoying) so cart them I must.
at the moment I'm using a 25L bag as it used to be everyday, carry everything bag, but I'm pretty confident I can get everything into a 15L bag without having the seams exploding..

  • can you not leave most of that work stuff at work, in a draw/filing cabinet labelled "Danger Plutonium" ?

  • I work in a restaurant, so the clothes are only good for 1 shift before they need washing and if my boss found anything hidden in the office, it would go in the bin, regardless of what it is and what it's worth. (he's thrown away many pairs of shoes in the past so he's not bluffing) He's a neat freak and believes nothing extra should be kept anywhere in the building.
I also study 2 days a week, so I have to be able to take shoes with me for that anyway.. I don't need to take anything more than a thin notebook and pen so that helps on that end.

  • SJS do a good range of saddle bags ! i'm just looking through them all now - some cheaper than SQR - some more expensive!

  • As it's all squishable, consider one of these. (other brands available)

  • I agree with the other posters, that's enough weight that commuting that far will probably impact your back. Go for a saddle pack of some sort.

The last non bag option I can think of that includes wearing your rapha top is to get a gilet (rapha, spexcel etc) to go on top of your PTJ - I wore mine bigxtop bag with my PTJ twice and it was very harsh on the material, would have probably eaten through it in 3 weeks of commuting. Although you might totally boil out.

  • That cheered me well up.

  • Will be selling for £15 a pop on eBay within a week.

  • Truth. I'll go stock up.
