Any one know of any full length permanent mudguards that will fit the fork crown headset area shown above. Sks etc often have a bracket that fouls the headset.

Use a daruma bolt.

Nice one... Ordered, not in stealth so £26. Cheers mate!

does the focus not have mudguard mounts?

Dent the mudguard, it's a common problem with the Shimano front derailleur that require quite a big movement to change gears.

It does, but in my head I'm one day going to do a cross race and wouldn't want to have to take off full guards every time.

Got 3 sets of guards to fit this weekend. Spent last night wrestling with VeloVitalitys' cheap fluted ones for Liz's commuter. Not enough hardware and comes with a shite sliding bridge thing. Might make an L bracket at work on Monday for it.
Og cruds for my nearly finished new mtb look so hawt.
Last pair are some more cruds for Liz's mtb but they can wait til tomorrow.

Buy a second bike, have one set up with full guards and the other race prepped.
Simple

Mudguards enrage me more than any other part of the bike.
Got a set of sks longboards, fitted them to my kinesis disc which required intricate bending of the stays.
These lasted a few months and then the end of the front guard snapped off. These were replaced under warranty.
My frame broke shortly thereafter and my warranty replacement frameset had the fork mudguard mounts in a different place so I had to carefully bend a new set of stays.
The 2nd set's front flap snapped off a few weeks ago so I got a new set of sks longboards and a set of raw mudflaps.
Tried to fit them today and found that sks have changed the location of the stays on their longboards (moved them further towards the bottom, presumably so they don't snap so easily).
So now I'm sitting here sweating and furious, trying to carefully bend and dremel a new set of stays into place.
Fuck's sake!

Maybe pay the lbs to do it and save yourself the trouble, most of the time when mudguards snap it's because of faulty installation
-

Nah, it's because of the massive heavy front flap that (prior to this new design) had very little support so it'd just wobble around a lot and eventually snap off. It's a known issue (search online), but while they work they're great mudguards.
It's just frustrating that my fork mounting point changed and now the design of them has changed, when I was hoping this'd be a five minute job. Oh well, on with the dremelling.

Rageragerage :)
Cut the stays down, twisted and bent things, reset and reset again. Reset the brakes too.
I have just been round my tyres with tweezers plucking off the molding sprues (little rubber hairs) as it was these rubbing the guard.
For now i have a silent spin of the front wheel :) -

So I've popped some 60mm Gilles Berthoud guards onto my roadrat for new wider tyres (42mm Marathon Supreme). Once I'd trimmed enough off for fork clearance they fit fine, but the rear is flexing vertically quite a lot - I can feel it bouncing around if I go over a speedbump. I think the cause is the compact geometry of the roadrat, it's a long way from brake bridge round to the single stay near the end of the mudguard, so I'll probably need to fit another stay.
So, does anyone have a spare 60mm GB stay, or would anyone like the other half of a pair? I can only find them in pairs and I can't imagine needing a fourth stay...

Have you tried bending the stays a little bit so they're less prone to vertical flex? Helped a lot for my rattling problems
-
• #2516
Bending them in which direction? Also, they're aluminium so I'd rather not bend them toooo much.

anyone know out of curosity which guards fit well the giant defy range? i have seen the giant fenders but have read mixed reviews, would like to run 28s soon. running with temps until i get fed up with wet feet

Just bend the middle of the stay a little bit downwards so you create a ( shape instead of |

Looking for a half decent flap for my Velo Orange hammered guards, suggestions?

If you wanna diy a piece of hardened but still flexible plastic could easily be cut to preferred size I reckon

I've got hold of a 1970s gazelle champion mondial A frame with the all important mudguard eyelets and reading the plaudits in this thread would like to fit some GBs.
I have some day questions before I order. Looking at the pictures do you think I'd have a problem squeezing the 40mm version between the chain stays and what's the solution to an undrilled chainstay bridge?
Also, the mudguard eyelets are threaded, is that a big problem? Finally, looking at the brake mounting do I need to consider any special bolts that don't come with the guards.
Many thanks.

Thanks. Wasn't too sure about drilling holes in the fenders but they look pretty tidy.
They all seem to be in stock at Tredz, I bought the 'stealth' version which are matt black (assuming you want the XL version too):

There's a £5 discount code which pops up every time I go on the site too, so make sure you get that.
