  • Comes to mind by now... [farage eh?]

all ties in with the revolution ballix some on FB/and one on here seem to espouse: Destroy the old, build the new. Sounds good, nice story.

I'm still in the house you are destroying mate! ;)

Some politicians finally saying they won't vote for Brexit unless there's more clarity than "out = out, breakfast means breakfast" to protect constituents interests/cos Scotland/cos their area voted out.

Disappointed that Labour isn't giving a stronger message of "yeah we accept the out vote BUT if you try to take workers rights, or EU national rights it ain't gonna happen".

  • Cambridge's MP is all like "Fuck off. My constituents didn't want to leave, I don't want to leave, so bollocks am I supporting leaving in any way".

Fair enough? He was elected to represent his constituents, not the country as a whole and 74% of them voted remain.

  • Nice to see the phrase "will of the people" used to tell the Brexiteers to fuck off.

  • Good on Helen Hayes. My MP. She's great.

  • Well...yes and no. Sometimes the will of constituents is seen as an excuse to be an asshat (hi, NI...)

But in this case there are good arguments to be made to get much more detail. Brexit is brexit means nothing. Walking blind into something cos "the people voted x" isn't good democracy esp. not with so much at stake.

So in this case saying "hey my constituents are against it, there are massive risks for everyone, I won't vote on this until you clarify it/cut the xenophobic crap/address other issues/I have more info its a clusterfuck so no" is more than fair enough.

  • Mine has said similar, but she's on a wafer thin majority (300 votes) so I'm not sure she'd survive a general election were one to be called before any parliamentary vote.

  • from the sounds of it most mp's seem to misunderstand the whole point of it being put in front of them. it's like a fire marshall saying well the building owner tells me his gasoline, dynamite and really static'y jumpers warehouse is perfectly safe so I'll just take his word for it and pass it without conducting any kind of investigations myself.

  • This interview with Gina Miller is interesting - https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2016/nov/11/article-50-claimant-gina-miller-safe-outside-brexit and may explain why some MPs would worry about voting how they feel.

  • They should not be intimidated by violence. The police and cps should be prosecuting anyone making death threats, or any other threatening behaviour. These clowns are a joke and a democracy should not be challenged by them.

  • This is a little ray of sunshine. Good on Lego. Go buy some :)

  • She's an impressive woman. It's difficult to imagine what the harassment must be like.

  • Yeah, saw that and thought "there are some good people out there".

  • Yeah, saw that and thought "there are some annoyingly good people out there".

  • Scarfolk blog is doing some brexit posts... :)

  • Quite an interesting picture (on the views of MPs vs their constituencies)

  • Have you finished yet? Any chance of a summary?

  • Sorta begs the question on why parliament thought it was a good idea to have this referendum...

Perhaps just sheer arrogance/misreading the mood "oh they'll vote in nobody is that...oh shit"

  • ^ :|

  • I got up to here:
One consequence of our decades-long EU membership is that we are short of certain specialist personnel and skills for tasks that will be central to Brexit and our future international relationships, such as trade negotiations.

    Then ran around panicking.

  • We're sick of experts anyway. Surely there are enough patriotic Brits in Sunderland who can "get on with it".

  • Err, it was a catastrophically arrogant blunder by the ham faced twat...

  • Surely there are enough patriotic Brits in Sunderland who can "get on with it"

Not Sunderland - they're all pretty busy there assembling Japanese cars.

  • Assembling cars? That reeks of expertism.
