  • Hi All,

I'm reluctantly selling (to fund a high end mtb) my late 1980s Roberts 55cm track bike.

I have just measured accurately and the dimensions are:
Top tube: center seat tube to centre of head tube = 55cm
Seat tube: centre bb to centre of top tube/seat tube lug = 55cm
    Down tube: c/c = 59cm
    Seat stays = 52cm
    Chain stays = 39.5cm
    Rear spacing = 12cm
    Head tube = 15.2cm

Frame doesn't have a tubing sticker on it, I heard Roberts use a custom mix of either 531 or Columbus. I'm sure someone on here knows better. All I know is it feels very fast, light and stiff, and absorbs road vibes very well enabling high speeds. The fork is round section, for extra stiffness I guess.

The frame is in vgc, i've touched up a few tiny chips. Inside fork leg I've painted a square of white hamerite because the paint was flaking there. There is no rust, it's never been ridden in the rain.

    Components:
BB: Stronglight Competition - super smooth, no play
Crankset: vintage Stronglight 49c 165mm with 46t TA ring in VGC (will throw in the Stronglight tool needed to remove this particular crank).
Pedals: Shimano M520 - smooth bearings no play
    Seatpost: carbon 27.2
Seat: Charge (modified and on last legs)
Rear sprocket: Miche Z16 with Miche carrier VGC
    Chain: chrome KMC 3/32 new.
Wheels: On-one track hubs laced to CPX30 rims hammerited black. smooth bearings, running true.
Tyres: Schwalbe Stelvio folding 25C - used but life left.
Headset: I fitted a black BBB sealed bearing headset which is strong and super smooth. The bike comes with its original very nice vintage OMAS all aluminium headset, I'm told equivalent to top Campag record. I removed it because I didn't want to wear it out riding around town. It's super smooth and complete with the fork crowns.
Stem: Cinelli 90mm fitted, comes with a 60mm Cinelli 1A also.
Bars: Cinelli 39cm deep drop track bars.
Brake: Cane Creek Crosstop lever with Campagnolo Mirage brake and kool stop pads. (rear not drilled)

Looking for £680 (dropped from £750). I'm not splitting the bike, would rather sell as one. I'm in Cardiff, welcome to come see it / collect, or I can post and will pack it very carefully in a load of bubble wrap inside a proper bike box. Thanks for reading.

Pics: (please ignore the state of my attic!)

  • Lovely frame. GLWS.

  • It's a beautiful bike, for sure; however, you can't list it both here and eBay

    Rule: #3

  • Rad paint

  • Really? Oh shit, sorry. I didn't realise. I'll leave it on here and take it off ebay.

  • No worries, just a heads-up, man. It's a lovely ride, good luck with the sale.

  • Ok... price drop. £700 ONO. :)

  • I'm having inner turmoils here ;)
What brand are the dropouts (rear and fork) please? Thanks. T

  • will throw in the Stronglight tool

That my friend is a seriously important detail. Almost no-one seems to have this remover.

  • Just checked, they are chromed front and rear, stamped Brev Campagnolo :)

  • Seriously cool. GLWS

  • Really lovely frame.

  • I bought one for 20€ here: http://www.probikeshop.net/var-kurbelabzieher-22-und-23-mm/89473.html

The roberts is a beaut. GLWS, I hope it goes to someone on here.

  • I may be wrong but I think 23 is the correct extractor for TA, Stronglight is slightly different - 23.4 or something like that...?

  • Cheers mate, v nice :) last couple of q's please.
    What's the standover?
Is/are there any serial number(s) stamped on it? Thanks again. T

  • You bought a TA remover, Stronglight is 23.6 or something weird like that. Or so I'm told. 23 works on them just about, with a bit of ptfe tape maybe...

  • Standover height is 81.2cm / 32" to the top of the tube. That's with 25c tyres. Serial is 87423. (I guess that could be a date it was finished, 23rd May 1987?).

  • My bad, I thought they were both 23mm. I bought the tool for TA cranks, indeed.

  • Evening and thanks for the pics/measures. It's a stunning frame and I'm going to regret this but will have to pass :( my claim w Parcelforce isn't going too well so unfortunately I can't justify this no matter how much I want it. If anything changes and you still have it I'll let you know.
Have a bump for a beautiful bike. Cheers. T

  • That's fine mate, no worries. Thanks for letting me know.

  • Saturday price drop: £680 now :)

  • Nice one, but still breaking forum rules
