  • Saarf,

I don't supposed you asked Ernesto if they have any plans to re-introduce steel frames again did you?

I don't mean the heritage Master that they do either but proper modern Columbus Spirit fat tubed contemporary framesets.

As a half decent grand fondo rider I baulked at the idea of dropping 2-3 grand on plastic which is why I got Stelbel in Italy to build me a Spirit steel Rodano for last season's Etape.

I just wished Colnago had that option like Merckx, Bataglin, De Rosa etc... have.

BTW I have two Masters and a Tecnos so I know how they ride.

  • I didn't ask Mr Colnago , but spoke to his son Alex and right had Laura , the company does not intend to develop new model steel bikes , nor make any more pistas , they can still do masters in Mapei decor and arabesque re launch
I just had lunch with someone who is a big deadstock buyer , he thinks there are around 80 tecnos in storage that have not been released onto market during last 10 years , hope we can find them
my own personal feeling is that the brand should embrace developing and producing steel frame sets again

  • he thinks there are around 80 tecnos in storage that have not been released onto market during last 10 years

    Dibs on a 58 cm c-to-c.

  • fo' sure
he lost 37 titanium Colnago frame sets when his warehouse went up in flames

  • Ooof. I hope he was insured.

  • only for what he paid ,the total inventory if released today would be seriously staggering , quite a character still

  • Pity about them shying away from steel, the modern stuff is so good if only people knew.

I think Colnago are missing a trick there.

80 missing Tecnos (Tecnii ?). I want to replace the chainstays on my Tecnos which a northern framesman has quoted me £170 to do. Thing is I may never see another one in my size anytime soon (60x58).

Still pondering it, do you have experience of repaired Colnagos?

  • I have had a steel Colnago repaired , I contacted the factory, and they said go to the wholesaler .
A lot of frames actually leave the factory naked , for Benelux anyway , and are sprayed locally , so they have relationships with certain companies,
I managed to bypass the wholesaler and go direct , tecnos is nivacrome , so it may be more costs efficent to get a good builder to do it, if you want to try via wholsaler, windwave is uk, codagex benlux , codagex use http://unlimitedcolors.nl/ , owned ny Ted , who comes from a car bodywork back ground, they sprayed for rabobank, giant , and i saw the belkin team tour bikes being done there , but i don't think they are steel frame builders

I agree Colnago are missing a trick , who know's ? things could change
I managed to speak to Antonio Colombo the same day , different kettles of fish
re custom orders, other houses have embraced this idea , these two German gents stopped got their fames made in max, went to the factory

  • The Tommasini on the left is nicely freulered but that stack under the stem!

Also is he wearing a bum-bag or?....

  • I think he suffers from a bad back and elephantitus of the genitalia , hence my eyes were drawn to the max lugged tubes, that said , nice people still

  • I think Steel Vintage have invested a huge amount in their SEO and marketing that has in turn placed them at the top of the game. They consistently dominate the search query results on google front page listings for the majority of the brands/models they deal in which in turn places them in prime position for those buyers with plenty of wonga to burn. You know the ones who are too posh to trawl ebay and the classifieds and probably too rich to even consider clicking on to page 2 on google results.
If you just want a nice vintage Colnago Master and you have deep pockets then google it, click one of their results and hit 'Buy'. That easy! But shit me, how boring zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • Think I' m on 1st page Google for Colnago super and Colnago Mexico , page 4 for master and I am one and spent none

  • Yes you are indeed, good to see Google still favours 'real' content.

  • My C40 is on first page in multiple photos when searching for Colnago C40, lfgss wins on "most viewed colnagos in the interwebz"

  • dem cubes !

  • Have you just got that? I don't recall you having it previously. Be nice to see some full bike pics

  • just got to flip mate , too big for me

  • Looking at that top tube decoration reminded me to ask.

Do we know who the artist is who was responsible for the the rider on the top tube design?

After all it is quite iconic in the cycling world.

  • Ah, the good old Mutant, one of the sexiest looking stems ever.

I got a raw one from Dutch Mario years ago, it polished up a treat just like yours.

  • Saarf,

Can you recommend a good source of Colnago decals?

I need a set for my Tecnos but it is the one model that seems to have no decal representation amongst the online sellers.

An Australian Ebay seller does the tubing transfer but doesn't seem to have the whole set.

    Thanks,

  • try the man for decals @colnago_costa

  • Nice Mapei
    What's the size ?

  • 58 x58 c to c
