Bad mood commute home due to Trump victory compounded by old duffer who can't brake. Luckily I bounced off the bonnet, tucked and rolled and only sustained a minor cut to my ankle. My wife was more concerned about the hole in my new birthday cycling socks which were "expensive". Turns out the driver is some famous NZ airforce pilot who went on Antartica expeditions with Edmund Hillary in the 50s.

Police rang. They charged and held him to go to court today based on my statement, she wouldn't give one. If he pleads guilty that's it, if not I may need to go to the trial.

Tried the 'correct' way of going joining the Embankment Cycle Highway coming from Parliament Square this morning. Won't bother again - it takes about 8 times as long as joining from the road.

Yes, I'm Ok thanks, checked over by the ambos. Just a bit stiff today and a little cut on my ankle. Very lucky really, managed to bounce off the bonnet and roll along the road rather than smashing into it. The driver has accepted liability, his insurance have already contacted me to say they will cover the bike replacement so should be all good.

And the socks too?

Yes, I mentioned the socks and they said to photograph and get costs for everything that was damaged, so they will be added to the list. Bike is totalled, should be able to salvage some parts though.

Woke up late, lil one didnt sleep well last night. Just avoided the rain, traffic sh*t heading towards London Bridge 8/10

Did the long ride in, chilly but fairly uneventful. The battery pack for my light was (I think) fully charged and didn't last the whole way in, dunno when it ran out, but it was off when I got to work. The ride home tonight could be interesting, especially with the last 3 miles or so on unlit country roads... Think I'll nip out and buy a backup front light sometime today.

It's not easy, often people go back to their abuser several times cos their abuser has messed with their head but at least you stopped him beating her again.

Will social services also get involved? Sounds like she has few options.

I pull up at a pedestrian crossing, van behind doesn't quite pull up in time. Crushed the wheel but no other damage or injury. Should be a straightforward insurance job.
