    By 'hole' you mean something that goes all the way through? As in removing at least the full thickness of the tube wall over an area that matches the profile of the tyre?

    Would you regard the brake bridge as a structural element?

    Structural yes, but I have no idea how much this affects the frame which is why I'm asking

  • Unlikely to explode and kill you but if it is not as described and it annoys you then I would at least try and get some of the money back or return for a full refund.

  • I was imagining something deeper that exposed the inside of the tube...

    If I'd done that myself and I didn't want to ever fit a rear brake, I'd probably paint it (if only to prevent corrosion) and carry on.

    If I'd paid good money and the frame arrived with undisclosed damage I'd take issue.
