• I almost bought these from Tom a couple of months ago, I didn't because I spent all my spare cash on a frame and my wheel plans changed in line with the frame I bought.

Anyhow, I was going to buy them via the internet and have them posted. Tom photographed and pointed out the damage in your second pic, I found this reasonable wear and tear for a used rim.

If I had bought them at that price and after removing the tyres found another two very small dents I'd still be happy that they were a good deal.

  • Everyone up thread suggesting this is acceptable wear or usual wear and tear. Firstly please tell us the last time you paid £400 for a used wheelset; and if you have paid this kind of money - the condition they were in.

I bought a pair of wheels last year, hopes on archetypes, for circa ~£350. I was told they were near perfect; and They were. If I had £400 for a pair of wheels that were inaccurately described, I'd be pissed off.

You all might not know Robadob but he's one of the most courteous and gentile people I've ever met. He is well within his right to be annoyed by the damage to these wheels .

  • A pair of Archetypes are £110, a pair of Hope Pro3s are about £190. For about £350 I would expect a pair of Hopes on Archetypes to be new.

These are not Hopes though, these are Chris Kings and a pair of non-ceramic Chris King R45s are about £640 on their own. Ceramic ones are more.

If he was basically paying retail price for second hand wheels that he'd never seen in the flesh, described as perfect, that's one thing. But he wasn't - he paid a realistic second hand price for 11spd Chris Kings, inspected them before making payment (which, for the record, was by eCheque meaning he had a week before the money cleared) and once he decided they were surplus to requirements/realised they weren't going to sell in a few days, tried to invent a reason to get a full refund.

If he'd turned round and asked for twenty quid back because he found a bit of cosmetic damage when he'd taken the tyres off, that would've been cool, but demanding a full refund because he can't be bothered to sell them on and suggesting that I'd deliberately misled him? Not cool.

  • My main issue here is that I feel the wheels I bought weren't as described. Should I have spent more time inspecting them when you brought them to London, yes, but unfortunately you being late to our meeting meant I was in quite a rush to get to work.

Whenever I sell any items on here, or anywhere for that matter, I take the time to inspect them beforehand to make sure any flaws are accurately described. This, it seems, is not the case with everyone but explains why I suggested you had deliberately misled me, as I was very surprised you hadn't noticed the dents when putting the tyres on the rims.

My anal nature is also the reason I felt uncomfortable selling these wheels "on here" for the same amount you sold them to me. The reason this issue has only just come to light is not because I can't be bothered to sell them on, but rather this morning was the first time I'd had the opportunity to strip the wheels down and clean them in order to make a proper listing. I'm well aware of what the wheels are worth (you saw the set on my bike), but regardless of whether these wheels had cost me £400 or £600 I would still have the same issue.

Anyway the people have spoken. I'll put these on eBay at some point and be done with it. Or maybe I'll end up holding on to them and riding them in a few months time. Who knows.

Also, genuine apologies for the eCheque payment, I've got no idea what happened there. I wish you had said something at the time...

  • I'm sure you'll get somewhere near your money back Rob, and if this was a Paypal transaction they would be returned immediately.

There is only one person here being 'not cool'.

  • Reading this impartially and I must say that everything Rob says comes across as being totally genuine. A leason learned Rob unfortunately.

  • sad to see some issues with a sale.
On one hand CK45 are expensive bits of kits with a high resale value, so the price still seems fair... on another hand, by Rob's and many's standards they need a rebuild.

How about the seller would agree to a small partial refund, as good gesture and to make a rebuild worth for Rob or another re-buyer ? #inthespiritoftheforum

  • Vashirakan Baba can resolve this.

  • I've heard he's good
