  • The frame appears to have had a revamp by RJ & S Palmer.

Was left in our cycle shed at work, I offered to have it as it was taking up space.

Here she is before the strip down...

Came with complete Dia Compe/Suntour Blaze groupset, ITM Bar and Stem with Rigida Wheelset and Green Line solid tyres.

    Before the strip down.

  • During the strip down...

Then it was off to the powdercoaters for a strip down of paint and some new paint to be applied.

  • When I was at the paint shop I was asked what colour, I said I would like something similar but was told they don't have anything like that as on closer inspection the paint had a metallic finish to it. So after going though the RAL chart I chose Light Blue.

Was told that I would have to wait 4-6 weeks for the frame to be ready, no problem I said, 2 weeks later I had a call to say its ready come and collect!!

So with the help of some people on here in buying parts it is currently in this state.

Contemplating whether to stick with down tube shifters or to upgrade to 7spd with 8spd brake/gear levers

  • Nice bit of salvaging there. Is the blue more like the indoor or outdoors photos.

  • Lavverley!

Are you going to detail the frame in any way? Decals? Spatter paint effect? Draw cocks all over it in tippex?

Also, does the powdercoat on the downtube bosses not affect the tolerances? I dunno, just asking.

  • BareNecessities - More like the outdoor photos.

doppelkorn - I am tempted to do a pin striping on the lugs, I will be getting some decals Reynolds ones to match the originals and then some custom decals. Hoping not to use the downtube shifting.

  • Contemplating whether to stick with the downtube shifting or go with a 8 spd brake/shifter combo with 130mm spaced rear?

If anyone could help me make my mind up!!

  • I like downtube shifting for simplicity on long distance touring bikes. However, they are a pain if the bike's being ridden in heavy traffic. My LHT currently has a right hand rapidfire shifter for the convenience & a left hand downtube shifter for trimming the the chain rub from the front mech. Bit of both works really well.

  • It won't be used for the commute I have the Langster for that... Just not sure which way to go.. Some of the parts need replacing like BB, mechs as they are too far gone... so whilst I am replacing I thought about a change, but then it could be a slippery road

  • Well its been a while but made it a job to be completed this year..

So here she is so far..

Just after some bits to finish her off, posted a wanted ad.

  • what bars are those? you call her "she" does she have a name?

i really like this project hope you will complete it this year.

  • Hi,

The bars are just inverted Northroad, no name. I guess a habit from cars.

    Thanks

  • Dug this out, need to get this done now!!!

  • So a kick up my butt and I have ordered all the parts bearing the bottom bracket, need to see what the driveline will be, plus having a little trouble trying to get the old BB shells to thread again... Is this normal after the bike has been stripped?

Chain, Brakes and Crankset have arrived today, just waiting on the brake lever to come.

Wheels came last week and just chuckked on some spare tyres I had just so I could freewheel down the drive and check the seat height.

Hoping to have it all done by end of next week.

  • Pics aren't working! Of your last two posts.

  • Are they working now?

  • Brakes and lever installed now...

  • Bars are ridiculous. Can't imagine that riding better than when they installed in the right position..

  • Well I have managed to get the Reynolds 525 decals on and levelled off the bars.
