Numbers don't work to make this plausible. Even if 100% of "older white men" voted Trump this doesn't come close to make him POTUS. Factor in the voting system / electoral college and it dilutes it even further. There had to be a sizeable female and minority group support to give him the White House. Weird and confusing times but the reasons for the win are way more complex.

Othering people (foreigners/muslims)
Offering a change, but not having failed yet (the BNP did and failed and got punished big style, Farage isn't even IN government)
Using fear/hatred
Having more media cash
Fox, the Sun and other toxic media, where disagreement means hatred of the others
Old school propaganda over a new medium
Denouncing political correctness, while being blatantly sexist/racist/homophobic while pretending it's about openness

The left won't stoop down to such tactics.

You're incredibly disliked and a terrible candidate.

I think that's a fair comment, it's a theory, not presenting it as anything else. I don't have data to back it up, but would be interesting to see if anything comes out that could suggest whether I'm right or wrong. Struggling to see any logical reason for voting for somebody so anti-American.

I hope the Clintons recognise a high level of personal culpability for their role in shaping such high levels repulsion in the minds of moderate voters that permitted Trump to gain office, even before you get to Hillary's role in gerrymandering the Republican candidate selection as she thought it would give her an easier road to the Whitehouse.

I guess people just prefer an openly corrupt racist/misogynist to a closet one who facilitated her husband's own wandering hands whilst using her charity as an International begging bowl for whatever political moves she was dreaming up at home.
