Ha, I've just used what looks like the same rack (£10 off eBay) to create my own bodged front rack. Thought I'd been clever and was about to post on the racks thread showing my ingenuity! My phone camera is fucked tho so no pics...
I bodged more than you and got it lower...
First, hacksawed off the "front" loop leaving the light bracket thing at the front. Then spun it around and used this to mount directly to the fork bridge mudguard mount.If yours is the same this may work. Unsure of structural integrity but time will tell...
Pics will follow in a few days. Will put them in the front rack thread....

Ok so in non-nazi related news I did a quick mock-up of the front rack and bag. I don't like how it sits so far above the front wheel but cant really think of a way to lower it without getting a different rack and there aren't many options in black unless you want a big sturdy thing. I'm hoping guards and bigger tyres will fill the gap somewhat.
