I should maybe have included an exclamation mark or raised eyebrows. Clearly this guy was paid to ride fast and his experience was that other drivers reacting to your presence can be more dangerous than relying on your own observations.

Yaaasss! I'm a Dommie owner at last.:)

Cool dommy Merak!
Etiquette (such as it is) here has bikes filter between the centre lane and the next one in. Drivers tend to leave a much larger gap between the two. Everywhere else, it's more of a free for all. There's definitely a science to filtering and it does require application.

The 20/20 'rule' is pretty good start point.
Only filter at a max speed of 20mph, while the traffic is doing <20mph?
That sounds about right.
Admittedly I'm fairly cautious, but I am always surprised by how fast people filter through stationary or slow moving traffic on my commute. Mainly I worry that if a car changes lanes without looking while traffic is moving then my insurance will find me at fault.

Filter at 20mph above traffic speed max. Filter up to traffic doing 20mph.
20/40rule too.Sometimes you can go faster but sometimes slower too.
Just use common sense. You'll the one that'll get done if shit hits fan.

On the liability, that's not necessarily true. I've been hit whilst filtering in the UK and it went as 50/50, despite it clearly being the drivers fault. Friends with better representation, have managed to claim in full from the drivers. I don't know anyone that has been found to be at fault in filtering incidents. Insurance companies are f'ing lazy, if they can rule 50/50, they will.

yeah I meant more if you're flying down between cars, it'll never go your way. And police might even prosecute for dangerous driving.
Claiming in full for a filtering issue is really good going.

The temperature is plummeting here in Scotchland. I'm entertaining the idea of heated grips this guy makes it look easy. Is it really?

Right, what could go wrong?:)

Marco - SWM are back in business too, they bought the bones of the Husqvarna operation from MV Agusta and have new models in the pipe.
In other thoughts, a little sensible voice in me is saying I should get a GPS unit for LA-Barstow-Vegas. It would need to be weather proof and crash resistant. A cursory googling shows the 64s and the Montana being worth a look - any GPS experts in the house?
-
• #8789
If I only had a room where to lay down Beta carpets... and smell fumes of opium..
-
• #8790
I know nothing about GPS, but I don't think exist anything crash resistant. You will have to sort out something artiginal... maybe a little cage, Mad Max style..
-
• #8791
Heated grips could be a thing to think only if that will help in primis to bring the tyres in temperature... if not I wouldn't bother...
-
• #8792
Google Davis vs Shrogin. If you're filtering through stationary or very slow traffic it's not your fault. Your insurer was indeed just lazy.

Do want, prototype.
Looks like a right fun bike. -

Needs beefier forks.

Needs a sump guard.
FTFY.

With filtering prefer to just get on with it and deal with existing developing situations rather than letting drivers throw their own spanners in there.
Glasgow doesn't have many bikes so drivers just don't know how to deal with them, human and fuel powered variety -

Went with my mate down to Huntington Beach last night to check out a DRZ400 for him to do Barstow Vegas. Turned out to be pretty cool - big Baja Designs Soltek headlight, vapor tech dash and a nice full system Yoshi. Apparently had a big bore conversion and the E cam, nice big flat side Keihin.
I had a quick spin and the difference to my Husky is profound - it's a lot heavier (probably 70lbs at least) but way more bottom end grunt and turbine smooth by comparison. Mine feels like a rocket powered cement mixer....such an enormous difference. He's going to be more comfy, that's for sure. I'll just have to roost him all the harder.

Sold already or broken link?
It's not sommuch a case of legal or illegal. But getting done for dangerous driving and driving without due car and attention.
The 20/20 'rule' is pretty good start point. And then use common sense and ride safe.
