Backpedaling reverses magnets? Who knew?

So the toothed ring has a spring between it and the freehub body. This engages and disengages with the teeth in the hub body. So everything locks together when you pedal and clicks away when you stop. It's a proper low pitched grumble of a click though, sounds mean. Love it.
Edit: beaten to it with a better explanation. But the teeth in the hub body aren't sprung. They're static teeth in the body for mavic.

More engagement, less likely to jam up like normal pawls.
Maybe I'll treat myself to a 240 one day. Actually, I could build another set of wheels for the ultra bike with deep carbon disc-specific rims. Hmm, anyone got some cheap Enve rims they want rid of?

More engagement, less likely to jam up like normal pawls.
And easier to service too (at least IMHO).

I've never struggled with pawls - just clean and relube and wait another year before they start making horrible noises again.
-
• #6932
Actually it's more the lack of tools needed.
-
• #6933
The newer Powertap hubs I use have a similar thing where the freehub just pops out of the hub shell exposing the pawls with no need for tools. It's only my oldest PT hub that requires a cone wrench to get the freehub off. But I'm a fan of the multi engagement points.

A big plus one for DCR from me. Great service from David. I got a set of his carbon rims and hubs which have been great. Summer miles only so far though. Think he offers a variety of hubs that are more weatherproof if I remember right.

You can replace the 350 internals with the fancy 10 degree star ratchets for £60 a hub or something

great hub

Bitex centrelock from DCR has 48 engagement points. More than 350 even with the upgrade

I've become quite a big fan of the Dt Swiss hubs, very nice kit.

Will it make me faster or just poorer :)
I'd consider it if I wore out the current one but what I really want is another set of wheels because I just find I have too much empty space at home...
-
• #6940
Never heard of them. Do they make hubs of the type I'd need and are they as durable as DT ?
-
• #6941
I'd like to put more miles on mine before I make that call but so far so good.
Then again, I've put tonnes of miles into those crappy PT hubs and they're still rolling, if not with original bearings.

Ok silly wheels question time.
So I've had an old lady reverse over my bike in the carpark and and a bit of insurance windfall. The missus has said no more bikes so I'm thinking 50mm carbon clinchers, pretty much because I can. And rumble.
I've had good success with fulcrums and I like campag so was thinking boras, but all the local shops are saying theyre rubbish, too stiff and not Aero, get zipps. Everything I've read about zipps says the hubs are junk. I don't race and want to be riding them in 5 years.
What's the lfgss word? -
• #6943
50mm could be bit deep if you dont race also HED.
-
• #6944
The 40mm Mavics look great. But then I would say that. No idea on performance - other than the rim brake version stops nicely - but it doesn't sound like you care :)
Do you have custom Enve build money? If so...

Enve rims on DT Swiss hubs, tubeless tyres. Bosh.
-
• #6946
Depends on how much money you want to drop on them.

I stopped reading at clincher

They come in any kind of TA/QR combo you can name and are convertable. Cant comment on durability as I've not build mine up yet but they feel very nice. Bearings are sealed and fairly large iirc

Haha Cheers fellas. Can't afford enve custom, already have corima viva tubs at minimum bid for climbing days.
Will check out the mavics and hed. Its disappointing I can't Google which wheels have the best 40km/h rumble noise, freehub sound and hub reliability. So basically all the worst reasons for buying Aero wheels.
Exactly.
Spring on both side push the ratchet against each other;
The hubs and the freehub "hold" it in place by the static paw.
The video show it better;
