  • Not that I know of, the DIY method is to use the jubilee cup.

  • People from the old days of west beers (Stonemasons, Old Ship, Crabtree) might remember my black S3 with guards, luggage rack and dyno lights, @Señor_Bear hopefully remembers hiding it in a bush one night. Sadly I sold the bike once it was no longer needed (still regret it).

Since August due to a work relocation I've been riding a brand new S6L, 11 1/2 miles each way. The only other folding bike I could consider over Brompton would be an Airnimal, but they are just too damn pricey. The resale market of a Brompton is so strong that if anyone is even considering buying one then I suggest do it. If you don't get on with it you'll find a buyer at a price you want.

  • He said he already have the firm block.

  • It was obviously too early for me!

  • Cheers Berto! Looks like we're gonna end up with identical bike collections :)

I'm thinking the S2L with telescopic seatpost, front bag and mudguards is probably the one for me. Looking at 2nd hand prices, there doesn't seem to be much point (or likelihood) of getting a bargain, I think I'd be better off getting a new one via the cycle to work scheme.

My work's got the generic cyclescheme so I don't think I'm tied into using any particular retailer. Any suggestions as to which shop is the best to go for? Is the 2017 model worth going for or am I best off looking for a discounted 2016 or 2015 model?

I'll try to arrange at least a test ride before going for one, but the idea of hiring one for a day could be handy...

  • Started the cyclescheme process, going for a 2017 S2l black edition in lagoon blue with telescopic seatpost. Rather looking forward to this!

  • I'm old and it's quite hilly around here, I love the six speeds on my Brompton... It is heavy but I don't ever have to carry it very far... #stillhigh

  • It is heavy but I don't ever have to carry it very far, but I can walk it everywhere... #stillslaining

  • Stop flirting with me, James, I'll tell the missus...

  • Do you not use it like a trolley?

  • Shut up, Ed... #lfgssclassics

  • Haha I have tried but the standard EZ-wheels are so shit, the bike topples over really easily.

Loving the C-bag - probably the best accessory I have bought - ever!

  • I'm still waiting for my Cyclescheme certificate to turn up so I can collect my Brompton.

In the meantime, I've bought an uprated suspension block as I'm about 90kg. I've also splashed out on the Carradice Stockport bag, a factory second from their eBay shop. I really like my Carradice SQR tour, so thought I'd stick with them.

I still need an S bag frame to fit it and Cyclesurgery have promised me a telescopic post and a bag block, but can't sort me out a black post, only silver...

What else will I need from the start? Got a set of M540s to fit as well - can't be doing with floppy folding pedals.

  • Anyone able to recommend a replacement bb and cranks over the standard? BB has given up the ghost after 7 months.

  • Ah perfect! If I can't get cycle surgery to chuck it in for free I'll head to condor for the frame!

I'm after the telescopic black post. Found one place online but I don't think CS can get them in...

  • Best smartphone holder/mount for a Brompton? BTW I've already got the accessory mount on my bars... I was riding down a super busy and fast moving three lane road with my phone in my hand last weekend, not ideal...

  • Standard Brompton's own BB will be fine.

  • I use one of these, fits my Nexus 5x fine and can still use fingerprint scanner on the back. It flaps a bit on bumpy roads but has never ejected my phone. I've ridden down rutted towpaths and it has worked fine whilst using google maps to navigate.

  • Nice! I'll keep an eye out for a restock. Cyclesurgery have confirmed they'll fit a silver tele post for £30 extra, so I'll use that for now and get a black one when they're a) available and b) the silver makes me sad enough to splash out another 65 quid on one.

  • Right, this gonna be interesting.

Applied for Ride2Work, voucher should arrived next week, ordered M3L Brompton (women's version that's oddly cheaper in trade than even the S2L) and start commuting on train.

  • Just listed as one because it got a women specific Brooks saddle.
