Fill a tumbler with gin and wave it in the general direction of Italy.

Ok technically not a cocktail as it has less than three ingredients but if you count the wave at Italy and include a salute in the general direction of Jamaica (Noels resting place) then I think it qualifies.

Similarly, the Churchill Martini. Stir gin whilst looking at a bottle of vermouth.

This works well enough with just espesso and vodka

Can anyone recommend a good, complete cocktail making set?

A friend likes making cocktails and doesn't have their set any more so I'm thinking birthday gift idea.

Not sure about pre-packaged kits, but you could probably find everything at Nisbets.
Make sure you get a kit that's got a proper Boston can and glass - the metal 'cocktail shakers' are shitty and not nearly as useful for blending and muddling, or even shaking.

I also could not live without a Mexican's elbow (citrus juicer).

Pretty much this. Just get it all separate, hawthorn strainer and a jigger also worth having.

Look at the bitter truth, they have a travel kit of different bitter which are very good for adding a different touch to a traditional cocktail

I've been into Nisbets before. Pity I don't work around the corner any more.
