Yes most of the time trade unions are useless. For example they refused to support the 1984 miners strike and refused repeated requests to call a general strike over the past 6 and a half years in protest at government austerity cuts.

There were more days strikes in 2011 (the last general strike) than in any other year on uk record. That was the year of the riots.
