  • I think it's called ChromaFlair. try asking talbot where they get theirs done, they've done some similar

  • chameleon or flip flop paint... Not sure where but think I've seen a Talbot with it? @coldharbour @hoops

    @fredtc snap!

  • Cheers gents

  • Aka maziora paint

Edit, just saw Fred wrote chromaflair, think that's the official brand name!

  • PM me.
I'll be taking on work again soon...

  • Chromaflair, lots of money. We paint our own, but only do Talbot stuff. @hoops is the man, PM him.

  • No, it can't refract through lacquer. I got a load of it from albedo100, tried it and it doesnt work at all. Has to be left as it comes out of the tin, which is a shame. Also tried adding the beads to 2K lacquer, again no luck. The only thing that 'may' work would be to get a shit tonne of the glass beads, mix into 2k lacquer and then rub back with an abrasive that would remove enough lacquer without cutting the beads, which is sort of how the refractive road paints work as they wear, but I got bored.

@danstuff has the best way of getting your required finish, scotchlite tape.

  • That's red/gold Chromacoat/Chromaflair (same stuff) over a black base. Same as I've just done on my new bike.

  • @danstuff

    Get your readers wives out!

  • Its hard to get a good finish. the fundamentals of reflective materials mean you need a smooth, even layer of the glass particles to have good reflective surface, thats why it is always so expensive.

I am working on glow in the dark powder put on to Lacquer on a frame i am doing, but that frame is painted a light green so will hide it a bit better.

could lacquer the frame and dust with the reflective glass beads... though they cost a BOMB

  • And if they sink into the lacquer they'll not work. Technology not up to application. :(

  • yeah, i meant once the lacquer has dried a bit but is still tacky... defiantly not a full proof solution... would be bit of a bootleg finish!

  • So basically that's a big fat no. I do appreciate all the chat though. Intrigued by mentions of @danstuff's bike - I want to see it!

  • Here you go. Taken today:

  • im assuming the shiny bits on the DT and seat stays are the reflective bits?

Can I see a closeup of how it looks on the tubing?

  • Nope, that's just the sun reflecting off the lacquer. There's two different themes currently featuring me and my bikes. The first involves embedding Scotchlite tape into the paint, like in my first homemade frame:

    With light applied:

    Without external light source :

Then there's the flip paint on my second homemade frame. Bloody hard to photograph with a crap phone camera but this is as good as it gets:

And the picture above of the whole bike. I need a decent camera...

  • Belt drive Di2 tandem with discs? The purists will love that.

    I think it's awesome

  • Where did you get this done? It's great!

  • Is that the specialist paints stuff @danstuff?

  • @Doktor_Bobby on instagram

  • Yep. Chtomacoat. Got some Red/Gold flip half price on eBay from Custom Paints, so only slightly eye-wateringly expensive.

  • That be me.
Did CAAD track frame to match too. Shadow/Nickel Chrome paint was a ball ache! Dunno if it counts as paint porn or not tho, as that's not for me to judge!
