  • Pacenti Pari-Moto ; they come in 40 mm only, though. I think they are more or less the same as the Gravelkings.

  • @edscoble @Pish

Thanks guys, any links to 40c Parenting Pari-Moti tyres from the UK? Thanks!

  • That's a good price.
    Pari-Moto come in 38 and 42.
The ones in that link are 38.
The site says 40 on the spec but 1.50 are 38mm.

  • Having looked briefly seems 42c are hard to track down, especially in gumwall and in the UK. Cheers @Pish for the link.

  • Needs a bit of fettling but it's getting there. Pretty sure these tyres are going to kill me unless it dries up pretty quick...

  • Serious flap game is serious. Why kill? no grip?!

  • very nice! is this your audax rig?

  • Is that a Disc Trucker or a Straggler? Also dat flapz

  • @JB smooth middle strip is a little skid happy, hoping it roughens up a touch

@amey thanks, audax, occasional commute, gravel, pretty much all winter riding that's not on the ssmtb

    @Heldring 700c straggler

  • Very nice bike. Presumably those are SKS guards - which size are they?

  • Yep, 700x60 can't remember which model. They are jammed up against the seat stay and just touch at the fork. Could probably remedy the latter if I drop the guard a little. Need some new front stays first.

  • I have some spare uncut stays I think @andy_k I'll check tonight...

  • Cheers but already got some waiting at KP. Need to get a few consumables at the same time so I can gear-up L's bike :)

  • Best straggler out there! Those flaps are so rad, and exactly what iv been thinking of doin for a while. Just ordered a 2mm thick sheet of rubber off ebay. What are yours?

  • Thanks! I think it's just polypropylene sheet from a local art/craft shop. It's a semi-rigid plastic anyway with a bunch of 3m tape stuck on it!

  • @JB smooth middle strip is a little skid happy.

Time for me to be a broken record.

Pressure is keys here, on that sizes, it can go from skid happy to all the grip, bit like MTB tyres.

  • Yes, started a little over 35psi which is the "minimum" on the sidewall. The center strip does look a little "shiny" compared to the herringbone section. I think as this wears to matte, grip will improve.

  • I went down to 30psi on my 48mm Switchback Hill (unladen), with the front rack, the front run at 35psi and the rear 30psi.

However smooth thread ≠ slippery, unless riding on towpath, wet leave etc.

  • Quick question,

Are 650b mountain bike wheel sets compatible with road cassettes?

So I could just buy any 650b MTB wheel set thats compatible with Shimano and install on my Surly Straggler?

  • Are 650b mountain bike wheel sets compatible with road cassettes?

    Yes and no.

While the road 11 speed cassette required a 11 speed freehubs, new Shimano 11 speed MTB cassette are design to run on 10 speed freehubs, however you need to keep your eyes peeled for a wheel that clearly stated up to 11 speed (like the Halo Vapour).

  • and you will need an MTB rear mech

  • Getting a cold sweat my Halo Vapour wheelset, currently being built, isn't going to take an 11sp Shimano 5800 cassette. @edscoble do you know which Halo hubs are 11sp road compatible? Currently going with a Supa Drive rear hub (HUHA6SS2). Thanks very much
