Hi Theozab, any news on that bikeregister number?
If so, could you send me a message with the frame number and the 'bumpy blue' bike register number and I'll look into who it's registered to.

By the way Brick Lane market in east London is where a lot of stolen bikes are sold on. So if your bike is stolen go there early on a Sunday morning and you might spot it being sold there and be able to catch the thief who stole it as well. Seriously, are you not aware of how many of your posts start with 'by the way'? Or of how many times you try to teach your grandmother to suck eggs?

Are these bikes that are being stolen from sheds and hallways not locked? No one ever says if their bike was locked and what kind of lock was used, which is helpful info.

Hey gang. My [bike details redacted] was taken from a break-in at work in Farringdon, over the weekend, I think. [bike details redacted]. If anyone sees one up for sale, give me a shout?
Beyond gutted.
[EDIT to remove details in case of scratters with access to Google.]

FUCK. Just found it on Gumtree. 100% sure it's mine. Any advice?

Find some way of proving it's yours, and then talk to police.

I would report it to the police but if you're feeling brave/got some burly mates I'd try and get it back yourself. I had two very distinctive bikes nicked a couple of years ago that showed up on eBay. The police said they'd deal with it - two weeks later they said 'they didn't have enough evidence sorry' by which time it had sold and the vendor disappeared!

That's the one, Obi - rather not link to it on here in case it sets a rabbit off.

Thanks, Keanu. Have pinged an email with the deets to the PC and his unit. Arranging a sale in the meantime. Fingers crossed...

It might be a good idea to delete the details of the bike above, too. Best of luck.

Good shout, Oliver, ta. And ta.

Have you called the Police? I'd recommend calling 101 and getting a crime reference, but double-up the effort on their new system: https://online.met.police.uk/
Don't worry about duplicating queries, they should have a process to handle this if they're sensible.

Any news on this last one?

… thought you might like to know that I’ve got it back!
After finding it on Gumtree on Monday evening. I contacted the seller, arranged a sale, got their address and when they’d be home, and sent the police to collect it in my place along with proof that it was mine. The seller gave up the person they got it from, who had a houseful of stolen bike gear. He has been arrested and gets them one close to whoever who broke in to work too– we’re hoping for a match on the CCTV. Result!
Public service announcement while you’re reading: really recommend getting your bike registered on the National Cycle Database ( https://www.bikeregister.com/ ), or at least keeping a record of your frame number – made it a lot easier to convince the police to act and also to get it out of the evidence chain and back on the road.
Cheers!
