For those that enquired:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mespilus_germanicaMore literary references than when I last looked.
Just the one tree I know of in peripheral Ruislip,
traditionally over-pruned by the LB Hillingdon contractors,
but still gives fruit,
ignored by the other residents and even the squirrels. -

Unfortunately also known as the "dog's arse fruit" but reportedly delicious.

Imagine a blend of caramel with the texture of stewed bramley apple with overtones of cinnamon, a touch of clove, maybe a hint of numeg, all improving and strengthening as the medlar bletts into ripeness. Truly the most exotic fruit that grows in the open in the UK, (greenhouse/glasshouse/orangery owners can ------->).
Although I've never tasted the 'checker' the fruit of the wild service tree, formerly used as a pre-hop beer flavouring,
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sorbus_torminalisso possibly a solution for all the over-Hopped, on-trend IPAs?

Looking forward to Thursday!
-
• #24932
Probably won't make it tomorrow. Any plan to shift elsewhere in weeks to come?
-
• #24933
Depends what the pizza is like!
Looking forward to sampling it @metrocammell -
• #24934
The pizza is excellent. You will come back. :)

Sat out the back where there's space/heaters/we can be noisy. Pizza menu looks delicious!

Sat out the front, see people soon

As @Oliver Schick mentioned I'm thinking of holding the "Thursday Night Ride Club's End of Season Party and Awards Ceremony" at the reformed wests this Thursday if it's alright with you lot.
-
• #24945
The "Thursday Night Ride Club's End of Season Party and Awards Ceremony" will usually takes the form of a handful of people sat in the corner drinking beer.
-
• #24946
Sounds excellent.
There's a decent size beer garden with heaters if you're happy to sit outside. If I get a rough estimate of how many people will be there then I'll let them know and we can have a table reserved inside and can put bikes down the side behind a locked gate. -
• #24947
Cool, as I said it will only be a handful of us, perhaps half a dozen, so prob not necessary to reserve a table unless it's really busy there on a Thursday. I'll keep you posted on numbers if the take-up is greater than expected.
-
• #24948
See you Thursday then!
-
• #24949
About 5 or 6 of us heading over tonight.

@middleofnowhere Jess (from North fame) is is now an assistant manager at the Red Lion. She's set aside a large table (enough for 10-12) at the back under 'LFGSS' and if you ask for her at the bar she'll let you lock up down the side behind the gate. Mention the forum when you order pizza for tasty discount!
Have a date with free beer and pizza beforehand but will be there from 8-ish.
Good to meet you all too. Very nice evening for cycling, I took the scenic route home.
