Don't think you can buy sim cards separately in the states in any case.
-
• #803
I have a phone already that I used during TCR. Don't want another phone, just SIM.
-
• #804
Ah, really? Fucking backwards mofos.
-
• #805
Yeah but more expensive than with a throw away phone?
-
• #806
Oh, actually will my Z3 Compact even work on US networks? Hmm.
-
• #807
But the SIM in the phone is locked to the phone.
I wonder what the coverage of Three roaming is like in the USA?
-
• #808
Not worth the risk IMO.
O/T the Manx sims are brilliant in this country as they roam on to any network that has coverage.

Good for audax connectivity
-
• #810
Yep, It's just here that they're shit.
-
• #811
Not worth risking a Three SIM again?
I guess I will just keep my O2 roaming and then see what I can sort out in Portland/Astoria.
-
• #812
Nope don't risk it.
In any case I cant stress how useful it is having a US number - no one over there will want to call an international mobile number. Nathan will only text US numbers. -

Right, so I need to track down a US SIM-only that has the best coverage. AT&T seemed to get good votes for coverage but can I actually buy one of their SIMs?
https://www.att.com/shop/wireless/devices/simcards.html ?
Limited 4G LTE availability in select markets.
Bring Your Own Device: Device must be compatible with the AT&T network and capable of using an AT&T SIM Card. If necessary, you should unlock your device so that it can use an AT&T SIM Card prior to porting your existing service. AT&T does not guarantee the performance of non-branded AT&T devices.
What about ebay SIMs?

I used AT&T - no problems, save yourself the heartache and aggravation and buy a cheap phone with the sim.
Walmart will set it up/ activate it too.
You could probably recoup expense by ebaying afterwards.
Id give you mine but going to use on TD.

A good website to see what phone will work where on what network http://willmyphonework.net/
-
• #818
Mine is the D5803 so it will get 4G.
-
• #819
But my phone is waterproof and already has a quadlock and lanyard fitted for mounting on the bike. It also has all my backup navigation apps installed.
-
• #820
Use that with 3 sim then and get a US phone/sim as a backup.
-
• #821
Take another few 3 Pay as You go Sims as backup (I'm pretty sure they have Feel at Home on Pay as You Go/1 month contract)
-
• #822
Why do I need PAYG backup SIMs? I could just get another pay monthly and cancel it, like I did last time.
-
• #823
Maybe you could rent a dongle. Would save the whole new sim/phone deal
-
• #824
Dongle? I'm not carrying a laptop around.
-

One of these. I use them on holiday - unlimited wifi for $60 a week

Get a 70 bucks pay as you go phone and sim from walmart, then use free weefee once your generous allowance is used up. I got a android smart phone made by Zhit which was as good as an iphone
Gives you a US number to chat/text to the other racers too.
