PsPlus is worth having.
£40 a year (can be got for less with cheap credit top ups, check frugal gaming for current deals)
Cloud back ups, online gaming, free games every month (admittedly been a bit poor of late.)
If you have a PS3 and/or Vita you get games on there too.
I agree is was a bit of a kick in the teeth after being free on the last gen. And for the reasons you state. But there is a silver lining.
