It also reminds me of a episode of Grand Designs I saw. The home owner had spent literally thousands on a wired network in the whole house, with a whole closet converted to server rack. (I should add that this was a modern build with plasterboard walls, not a stone house like yours) The presenter guy said 'well that's impressive, but have you considered wifi?'. Awkward.
